Because they are equally present, neither has immutable bliss. In the Great Commentary, it says: Just as the hundred-pathed hermits who feed on wild animals enjoy happiness at the end of the year; and the pigeons who feed on stone powder always do so. Neither has supreme happiness. Lord Marpa said: If the two channels and winds are not cultivated, even if there is bindu, it is like the wealth of the northern plains without a guardian. Where is there happiness to enjoy with decline, leakage, and loss? Therefore, just as mercury flees when it encounters fire, fire is the only enemy of mercury. However, if separated from fire, mercury cannot be bound. Similarly, the enemy of inner mercury is the object of desire, but without it, it cannot be bound. Therefore, by understanding the method of neither excessively clinging nor excessively abandoning, if it is well bound, then both inner and outer mercury will not waver even when encountering enemies, and this is well bound. That is the accomplished mercury, called the great essence of mercury that appears as gold. The external essence, whatever iron it touches, pierces everything in an instant, destroys the impure taste, and turns it into a golden object. The inner essence pierces the aggregates of the skandhas in an instant, destroys the impure taste, and turns it into the supreme, immutable golden object. The collection of scriptures is boundless, but letters are frightening. Therefore, the path of Vajrayana is to understand the key of not being controlled by afflictions, to protect well the support and the supported bodhicitta, and to learn the causes of decline and the causes of increase and stability. In general, this mantra's vow-bestowing ritual is common to all four tantra classes, but the way of holding the moon and vajra is a special key to the path of the higher empowerment, and it is not even taught in the generation stage, let alone the lower tantra classes. Therefore, it must be kept secret from those who are not fully ripened. In general, this fifth root downfall is not understood by the scholars of other tantras, or only partially understood, so it is not obvious. Like the scattered explanations from the Kalachakra, and the view of Glorious Self-Arisen, adorned with the oral instructions of the lineage, it is clearly and extensively explained, hidden from the speculators.

This should be done. Regarding the sixth root downfall, its nature is: belittling a philosophical system due to the control of afflictions, that is, one's own or another's philosophical system. This is the sixth act of disparaging the Dharma. Thus it is said. The sixth is disparaging philosophical systems. Thus it is said. The reason is: all internal and external philosophical systems are the authors of the Buddha's skillful means, because the realm of the Bodhisattva's skillful means of manifestation is stated in the Sutra Showing the Field of Play of Miraculous Manifestations of Skillful Means of Bodhisattvas: The son of the naked one, who speaks truthfully, caused many beings to ripen by means of nakedness. From this it follows: Where does the pile of Jambudvipa gold come from? From that, a displeasing pile of iron will not arise. Wherever the disc of the sun has risen, there is no opportunity for darkness to dwell. And so forth. Even a wheel-turning king who has accumulated a small amount of merit has no equal, so how could there be an equal to the Tathagata who has accumulated the two accumulations to their ultimate extent? Therefore, all the appearances in this realm of demons, Tirthikas, practitioners, constant wanderers, and so forth, are the skillful means of the Tathagata. That is, among sentient beings, there are many who are inclined towards liberation but are not inclined towards the correct method of liberation. These people enter because they are fond of the philosophical systems and practices of the Tirthikas, and they do not enter because they are afraid of the actual teachings. These people strive to make their obscurations slightly thinner, and although they do not obtain any fruit, they become weary and will later enter the actual teachings. Thus it is said. In the Sutra on Patience, which Subdues with the Color of the Sky, it is said: The Tathagata himself entered the samadhi of the color of a meteor, and the Bhagavan, the old ascetic with matted hair, illuminated all the worlds with a mass of firelight from the fire sacrifice, with various colors, and all the Buddhas of the ten directions also became ascetics, and with this miracle he subdued all the non-Buddhists who claimed to be liberated by asceticism. From this it follows: In the past, the Bhagavan himself was a king named Treasury of Rays of Merit, and became a wheel-turning king of the four continents. At that time, there were no other ascetics, and when he asked a Tirthika who looked to the sun as a teacher, he knew that it was not the path, and after fasting for seven days, he made a vow.
