The thoughts that things and objects will perish are themselves demons. That emptiness itself is the nature of the vajra, and the great bliss like a flame of fire, the indivisible samadhi, because it is unchanging, does not arise again, and prevents what has arisen, that is the protective wheel. The door and the doorkeeper are said to be the essence of the four right abandonments, because there is no external demon other than one's own mind. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara: "There is no demon, nor the work of a demon, as bound by one's own mind. If one tames one's own mind, where can the demon dwell?" Then, purifying the ground with substances and samadhi, as the oral instructions say, the ground is swept and cleaned, and then smeared with a mixture of blood and alcohol from three animals: humans, horses, and dogs. Similarly, mix substances with hand-seal offerings, perform the smearing, and abide in the equality of wisdom. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara: "With the nectar of the five wisdoms, the act of smearing the ground, the diligence of the perfection of patience, flowers are scattered in all directions. The seat of various hand-seals is pure, laid out and placed very evenly, with the perfection of meditation as the goal, the mind is one-pointed." Here, the ground ritual is not mentioned, so some lamas say that it needs to be taken from other mandalas. But that only refers to the elaborate ground ritual, because in the Yoga Tantra Collection, the Guhyasamaja, and the Anuttarayoga's many extensive mandala rituals, it is said that way, which is said for the sake of taming beings who need to be bound by elaborate actions. Otherwise, they would not believe in condensing these rituals into their essence, and when they see many elaborate interventions, they will be satisfied. In India, there was a king named Gobichandra, who had an old mother who looked at the king and cried. When asked the reason, she said that even someone like you, who possesses noble lineage, handsome appearance, youth, and wealth, will face death, so I am crying. When asked if there was a way to be immortal, she said there was. She said that there was a yogi among our housekeepers, you can ask him, and then she showed an accomplished one who existed in a hidden way. When asked, that yogi put his hand into an empty vase, and then showed his empty hand, saying that this is the way to be immortal, all the Dharma.

It is said that he hinted that everything is emptiness, without birth or death, and to practice its meaning. The king did not understand and thought that this person was deceiving me with lies, so he imprisoned him in a dungeon. That yogi had many disciples with clairvoyance, and when they found out, they gathered in front of the king's palace gate and said they wanted to see the guru. Someone said, "Your guru has been killed by the king." They said, "Then let him be killed." The king asked, "Do you know the method of immortality?" They said they knew, and then made a mandala of colored powders with five kinds of precious jewels, and performed a grand ritual. The king was very pleased and thought that these people were the most correct, and that the previous one was very false, so he developed faith and requested initiation. They also performed a grand sequence of entering with visualizations, etc., and finally hinted at the previous hint and explained its meaning. The king understood and released the yogi from the dungeon. It is said that the king also practiced this path and attained accomplishment. Similarly, regarding the ground ritual, etc., countless rituals are also said, and it is the same. Regarding examining the ground, it also speaks of examining the place, direction, shape, color, signs, designated marks, and with earth and water, but the meaning of its accomplishment is to practice in a suitable place, and there is nothing else besides that. Regarding raising the ground, it has already been said that the meaning can be accomplished through the preliminary torma. Regarding occupying and purifying the ground, many rituals such as dances and postures are spoken of, but ultimately it is only through faith that one occupies, and through samadhi that one purifies and blesses. If these are lacking, then no matter how many gestures of the body and sounds of speech there are, they will only become a performance and will not turn into anything else. Therefore, what is not included in the meaning of the ground ritual? Ultimately, it is to eliminate the characteristics of the grasping and the grasped of one's own mind, and to make the mind completely pure. This is merely a symbolic way of showing it in the form of a ritual for those of dull faculties. The Vinayasutra says: One's own mind is completely pure, that itself is the purification of the ground. Second, regarding setting up the seat: The oral instruction says: In its center, make a round mandala, one cubit wide and four fingers high, and smear it with conch, wine, and fragrant water. Therefore, during practice, make a seat of that size facing east, and at other times according to the situation.
