The four ways of arising were taught. Similarly, the arising of the four vajras, the three stages, the six limbs, etc., are said to be merely different ritual commitments, but the actual arising is contained within these four. In particular, regarding the arising of the Blessed Mother, in the Abhisamayalankara Tantra, it is said that on top of the four elements and Mount Meru, in a square palace, the four-faced, twelve-armed deity arises from the five Abhisamayas, surrounded by the four heart-essence dakinis, and each of the four eyes, etc., is surrounded by six Rabtummas, etc., and the eight gate goddesses, surrounded by forty-one deities in total. In the Abhidhanottara Tantra, there are also many Vajravarahi mandalas, such as the instantaneous arising of the three-faced, six-armed Vajravarahi. Similarly, the six commentators and the scholar Kongka Gyaltsen, etc., have separately explained them in many ritual texts. However, the sadhana taught here by the glorious Naropa is the way of arising from the four vajras. As stated in the Two Inquiries Tantra: "Again, emptiness is enlightenment; secondly, place the seed; thirdly, complete the image; fourthly, place the letters." This is in accordance with the above statement. Therefore, first contemplate the great emptiness, the realm of the pacification of elaboration, and from that, like a bubble from illusory water, the wheels of protection are initially stabilized as before, and then, with the gradual wisdom of the yogi, contemplate as much as the realm of space, or as much as the three thousand worlds, or as much as Jambudvipa, or as much as a country, or at least as much as one's own dwelling and its surroundings, or as much as includes all that is to be protected, and contemplate and so on as clearly as before. Within that are the eight great charnel grounds that purify the eight aggregates of consciousness. In general, in the Ocean of Dakinis, there are four sets of eight charnel grounds of the mind, speech, body, and samaya wheels. In the Kalachakra, they are also spoken of by names such as dead children. But here, following the abridged version of the Root Explanation Tantra of Chakrasamvara by Acharya Lohipa and others, one should contemplate with these names and characteristics: in the east, fierce and violent; in the north, dense and tangled; in the west, roaring and blazing; in the south, terrifying; fire, a forest rich in trees; rakshasa, unbearable darkness; wind, kilikili's.

The charnel ground where the sound resounds and the powerful ones laugh wildly! In these charnel grounds, just by following the clockwise and counterclockwise order, Indra and Kubera, the water deity, Yama, Agni, Rakshasa, Vayu, and Ishana, the eight guardians of the directions, each residing on their own mount, with their consorts leaning from the left, residing at the roots of eight great trees such as the Shri tree and the Ashvattha. From the center of these great trees, abundant with leaves, branches, flowers, and fruits, emerge eight great field-protecting deities with vase-like bellies, having the faces of the mounts of the directional guardians, holding a torma in their left hands and making a threatening gesture with their right hands, with half of their bodies appearing. Similarly, there are eight great rivers, and from the center of these rivers emerge eight great nagas, with half of their bodies appearing above the water, and in the sky above, there are eight great clouds such as the one that resounds, filled with water, moist and emitting light, making thunder and raining. There are eight great accomplished mountains, filled with many caves, and on top of the caves are eight great stupas. And there are the eight fundamental dharmas of the completion stage, such as tummo. From each of these dharmas, eight yogis who have accomplished the great mudra appear. And there are the yogis who have accomplished the eight common siddhis. And the place is covered with heaps of corpses, skeletons, skulls, and hair, such as new and old corpses, scattered limbs, burned and unburned corpses. It is filled with zombies, flesh-eaters, rakshasas, vultures, jackals, groups of snakes, and crows, etc. Countless assemblies of yogis and yoginis play in the vajra songs, dances, and gathering circles. In short, all the impermanent, suffering, and impure dharmas of samsara are without self and without what belongs to self, and are not tainted by conceptual thoughts. In the great wisdom of bliss and emptiness, which is the clear light of the vajra, they are primordially pure, and one should meditate on the nature of equality. The classifications of these, and how to purify them internally and externally, etc., are explained in detail in the Ra La Tantra: Ornament of the Charnel Ground, and in Abhayakara's Sprout of Instructions, and in the three commentaries on Bodhicitta, etc., but I am afraid of the length of the text. This is the characteristic of the charnel ground as spoken by Tathagata Foot.
