Just as one's own mind is said to be clear light, there is no basis for expressing it in this way or for applying terms. The nature of the mind is primordially like the sky, and all phenomena are contained within it without exception. Thus it is said. From Nāropa's Condensed View: Since existence is not established, non-existence cannot be established even slightly. Because they are mutually dependent, neither this shore nor the other shore is established. It is neither existent nor non-existent, because it is not established in itself. It is not that both are non-existent, because existence and non-existence are contradictory. It is not by embodied beings, nor is it possible to be disembodied. Therefore, it is free from all elaborations. Thus, the ultimate truth is determined. It is said that the mind abides in the sky. Whatever is free from elaboration is also appearing and empty, empty and appearing. Therefore, appearance and emptiness are inseparable. Like the moon in water, thus determine non-duality. Thus it is said. In Nāropa's Condensed Words: Leave the nature uncorrected in its natural state. The dharmakāya is beyond thought. If you leave it without searching, it is meditation. Searching and meditating is a deluded mind. Thus, all the great siddhas have unanimously spoken immeasurably. If you understand the profound essence of this lineage, then the various nets of signs of what is a downfall and what is not, and where, who, and how one falls, are like a river of dreams, and the dry land on the shore of emptiness where signs are completely eliminated, and the individuals who fall into and emerge from them, and the self who sees them, are all the basis of appearance in the absence of all things, awakening in the nature that has not awakened from the sleep of ignorance since the beginning, and all phenomena become of one taste in that very purity. Otherwise, those with arrogance and strong attachment to extreme clinging cannot transcend this downfall. Because the thought of fearing that a downfall will occur and hoping that it will not, and the very clinging to the idea that this is a downfall and this is not, will become the root downfall of this lineage, because they cling to the dharma that is free from downfall and non-downfall as downfall and non-downfall. Therefore, if one has not received the transference of blessings from a holy lama, then a scholar who is merely verbally skilled in reciting the texts of tantras and commentaries, cannot with the secret mantras learned from a teacher, vajra

Since the necessity of profound mantras cannot be accomplished, one must first seek to realize the very nature of the guru. Here, some scholars consider the three root downfalls of sharp, medium, and dull faculties. Although all three are the same in holding names and so forth as truly existent as a root downfall, the mantra practitioner of the dull faculty, the Mind-Only school, holds the wisdom of non-duality as truly existent, and the mantra practitioner of the medium faculty, the Svatantrika Madhyamaka school, holds all phenomena as empty. These two are due to their respective philosophical tenets, so they do not become root downfalls. For the sharp faculty, if in the causal stage one holds all phenomena as emptiness, or the equality that transcends that, or the inexpressible that transcends even that, it is a root downfall. In the path stage, conceptual thought is the same as in the causal stage, and non-conceptual thought is one aspect of the path of the third faculty, and in the fourth empowerment, during the non-conceptual yoga of the path, any conceptual thought that arises, such as "This is the ultimate truth," is a root downfall. If other conceptualizations arise, it is a great fault, the work of a demon, and should be abandoned. Although they explain it this way, it does not appeal to me. If the Mind-Only school and the Svatantrika school are considered in terms of their philosophical tenets before entering mantra, then even if the Shravakas, the Vaibhashikas, the Samkhyas, and the nihilists enter mantra, if they disparage the tenets of the Mahayana, it would not be the sixth root downfall, because it is due to their respective philosophical tenets. Similarly, if a Shravaka who has entered mantra scorns impermanence, the impurity and decay of the body, and so on, or if a Samkhya considers the enjoyer, the purusha of consciousness, and the prakriti that causes enjoyment, as validly established ultimate truth, or if a nihilist considers this world as real and the next as unreal, these would also not become root downfalls, because it is due to their respective philosophical tenets. In general, having entered a higher path, one must improve upon the previous view. For example, when a tirthika enters Buddhism, one should contemplate impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness. When a Hinayana practitioner enters the Mind-Only school, one should understand that external objects are not established. When a Mind-Only practitioner enters the Madhyamaka school, one must also understand that the mind is not established by its own nature. At worst, even if one cannot improve, it is only that one has not understood that meaning, but by nature
