I have not experienced existence, and in the final stage of looking at cessation and reversing everything, if one thinks that blocking all clinging and entering the state of near pacification of elaboration, etc., is it not nihilistic? If one has doubts like this, then because it is doubting one aspect of the purity of the fourth empowerment, it becomes a root downfall. Therefore, the Great Commentary also states, "Lack of faith in emptiness." Some say that this does not invalidate the purity of self-awareness. But according to your system, it is not so, because this is a general explanation of the purity of all objects and subjects. Because you do not want all purities to be included in the purity of self-awareness. We believe that there is no purity that is not included in the purity of the wisdom of individual self-awareness. The temporary consciousness of merely experiencing oneself does not become the purity of self-awareness, because this is common to all children. Moreover, for those noble ones whose elaborations of mind and mental factors have ceased and who have entered the great clear light, this does not exist. The purity of the object of this root downfall, for beginners, when consciousness and wisdom are divided, is not regarded as the self-awareness purity of consciousness. Because the self-awareness of consciousness alone is clinging itself, even in the stage of mere calm abiding, when it arises, it awakens samadhi and becomes an obstacle. Also, at the time of insight, when it arises, it becomes a heap of signs, so this is the root of all impurities, the part that faces inward to the alaya and clings to self, not an antidote. This root downfall is said to be a root downfall if one doubts the purity that becomes an antidote, but it is not said to be a root downfall if one doubts the aspect to be abandoned. For example, wondering and doubting whether desire is outside, inside, both, or neither, whether it is born or unborn, what it is, is not a root downfall. Because in that way, one knows that desire is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding, and that its own nature is primordially pure, and thus one can instantly enter the wisdom of the union of purity and desire. Therefore, if one doubts that the nature of desire is bliss-emptiness and immeasurable light, and then thinks, "Then why do the noble arhats specifically abandon desire?" such thinking is meaningless.

If one hesitates, it becomes a root downfall, because being led by meaningless doubt, the thought arises that "this is not true." The object of this root downfall is the generally spoken purity, such as "for the self-nature pure dharmas," and "for the pure dharma," etc., the general instruction alone is established. Then, if one thinks that the ultimate purity is not explained here, it contradicts the previous statement, it is not so, because in the fourth empowerment divided into two, here mainly explains the conventional purity, but it is not said that it does not explain the ultimate purity, because the nature of the two truths is inseparable like fire and heat, so no one can deny it. It will not become a repetition of the root downfall, because here mainly explains the elimination of the extreme of dualistic thoughts in the order of illusion, and in the eleventh chapter, the elimination of the extreme of exaggeration and depreciation in the order of clear light. Some say that to understand this self-nature purity, one must obtain the view of the inseparability of samsara and nirvana, if one seeks from scripture, reason, and key instructions, this doubt will not arise. If the view of the inseparability of samsara and nirvana refers to the wisdom that arises simultaneously with the mantra, then it is not obtained only from scripture, reason, and key instructions, but must rely on the blessing of a qualified lama entering in time, and the auspicious coincidence of one's own two accumulations being accustomed to becoming supreme, as it is said: "Not spoken by others, co-emergent (藏文:ལྷན་ཅིག་སྐྱེས།,梵文天城体:सहज,梵文罗马拟音:sahaja,汉语字面意思:俱生). Nowhere is it found, relying on the lama's timely means, one's own merit is known." In general, it is necessary to explain that crops arise from the aggregation of fields, seeds, time, and conditions, but if one says that crops arise from treatises on wealth, plows, and crops, it will become a laughing matter. The essential meaning of co-emergence is that the blessing of a qualified lama enters the fortunate disciple in time, so that each one arises from the wisdom of self-awareness, if one says that it should be sought from scripture, reason, and key instructions, it cannot please the wise, because scripture, reason, and key instructions are all present in each from barbarians to Vajrayana, the sutras of the three baskets spoken by the Thus Gone One are the twelve links of dependent origination, and the reason for cause and effect is the three trainings.
