If one clings to the objects to be abandoned as real and makes them very solid, that is not good, just as the purgative medicine itself cannot dissolve. Regarding the condemnation of Vajra brothers and sisters and women being said to be a root downfall, it is not because their aggregates are of the five families that it is established as a root downfall, but because the brother or sister is a virtuous friend, the Sangha, and the term 'woman' indicates that they are established as special companions on the path. I have not seen self-deprecation being established as a root downfall. Because the eighth states that it is contempt for the aggregates, not contempt for oneself. No one considers the aggregates to be oneself, and it is not included in the other thirteen either. Moreover, when everything is known as the deity, one does not find a separate self that is not included therein, so there is no need to speak of it. So, is the statement that 'one should not despise all individuals' a valid root downfall? Answer: Despising all aggregates is said to be a root downfall, so it is more extensive, because for those who hold sectarian views that regard matter and consciousness, persons, etc. as different, despising individuals is said to be a root downfall, while for those who are not included by the mind, such as mountains, man-made water, feces, urine, etc., despising them cannot be avoided. Here, the aggregates, elements, and sense fields are all shown as deities, so despising any of them is said to be a root downfall. If we distinguish in detail, the collection of individuals or persons is merely established due to delusion. If one particularly despises its form, it becomes despising Vairochana, and from particularly despising the earth element, it becomes despising the Earth Mother, and so on. One must understand this. Because even in the Hearer Vehicle, it is said that one should not even generate ill will and anger towards a broom, let alone a sentient body, then what more need be said in the Vajra Vehicle. All dharmas are gathered into the five aggregates gathered by the Vajra body, speech, and mind. Taking the reason that despising one's own aggregates of the yogi is a root downfall, if one thinks that despising one's own aggregates and despising others' aggregates are different like pillars and pots, and that despising others' aggregates is not a root downfall, then do not think that way, as it becomes correcting the key point of the downfall. The thought is: What is the use of collecting a rotting body due to hating and being angry with the body?

It is like thinking, "It would be better to die." The main part is: viewing the body as an enemy and whipping it, fasting, observing vows, cutting it into pieces, lighting torches, etc., beating, striking, and causing others to do these things, or verbally abusing it, scolding, "It's all because of this useless body," etc. As the Commentary says: The aggregates, afflictions, etc., are placed in fasting, etc., and spoken of as cutting the body, etc., and thus it becomes the eighth (root downfall). Also, Master Jampal Drakpa said: That is also killing, binding, hating oneself and being disgusted, tormenting oneself with asceticism, contemplating the impurity of the body, making the limbs, etc., unpleasant, and despising the body as a heap. In short, mainly speaking of the body, if one is attached to and angry with all the aggregates, elements, and sense fields, both internal and external, then it is a root downfall. The time is: when the thought and action of angry beating, etc., are completed. The way of becoming a downfall is: the same. The absence of downfall is: without contempt for the aggregates, etc., but due to the power of faith, doing the fasting, etc., spoken of in the sutras and tantras in order to purify obscurations, and seeing the great meaning for oneself and others, and like the special need of the higher empowerment path, there is no fault in despising with body and speech, but it is impossible to be without fault if one is angry with the aggregates with true clinging in the mind. On the other hand, in order to reverse the true clinging to the aggregates, there is no downfall in showing the heap and Yama, etc., again. Some say that if one separates the original body and the body of karmic maturation in the mind, and then does fasting, etc., there is no fault. However, such a distinction is not spoken of in the tantras, and it seems to be a means of still allowing the distinction of a non-deity part in the body that one has promised to be a deity. If so, what is the difference in the other thirteen root downfalls, where one can also distinguish between the original and karmic maturation and then purify them? In short, one should know that all the aggregates, elements, and sense fields are originally pure deities, so one should not make them objects of attachment and aversion, nor should one cling to them as self, but should enjoy all appearances and existence as the form of deities. The ninth root downfall, the essence is: the heavy downfall of not believing in the naturally pure Dharma and having doubts.
