There are two types: taking an individual sentient being as the object, and taking all sentient beings as the object. That is to say, even ferocious beasts cherish their wives and children, so it is impossible to be angry with all sentient beings at once. Therefore, losing loving-kindness and becoming angry with any sentient being will also become a root downfall. Abandonment with an individual sentient being as the object is: for example, I have bestowed great favors on someone, but not only does he not repay my kindness, but he harms me, even endangering my life. Then I lose loving-kindness and feel disgusted, thinking: Now I will never help him again, and I don't even want to see him. I have a firm thought, and then give up helping others. Abandonment with all other sentient beings as the object is: Seeing sentient beings committing great evil deeds, I think: I can't even do this one person's thing, let alone all sentient beings? Now I should pursue my own peace, so I abandon everything else and give rise to the mind of a Hinayana practitioner. The intention is: Because of hatred, the desire to abandon is constant and does not turn back from this thought. The actual basis is: Because of the disgust of hatred, turning away from loving-kindness, abandoning because of hatred, and firmly holding the thought of not giving help. Here, in the commentary, it says: There are four types of abandoning loving-kindness, namely small, medium, large, and very large. Among them, the small one refers to abandoning loving-kindness for only a moment and then returning, like a line drawn on water with a stick. The medium one is like a line on sand, which is quickly smoothed out by the wind. The nature of the large one is like a crack in the earth, which is quickly filled by the summer rain. Similarly, a mind without loving-kindness, the nature of the very large one is completely mature, for example, like a stone cracking, it can never be completely restored, or like a ripe fruit, it cannot return to the tree. Abandoning loving-kindness to sentient beings in this way will become the fourth root downfall. It is said in the sutra that the very large one will become a root downfall, like a stone cracking and not being able to return to its original state, which is extreme hatred, trees

Not maturing and returning is an example of entering the Hearer and Solitary Realizer paths. Therefore, abandoning loving-kindness focused on sentient beings and phenomena is considered a root downfall, while objectless loving-kindness is not discussed here. The time is: the very moment when the thought of anger or abandonment is firmly established. The way to fall into downfall: as before. Non-downfall situations: showing temporary harm only out of compassion, and showing abandonment of loving-kindness due to special needs, there is no fault. If it is thought that these are no different from the characteristic Mahayana and should not be a root downfall of mantra, then generally, the essence of the path of both Sutra and Tantra is the same except for the difference in methods, which is the view of glorious Rangjung Zhap. For example, killing a person is the root of both a layperson and a novice monk, but due to the precepts, it is established as a defeat of a fully ordained monk. Similarly, here, the fault of a Bodhisattva is very serious, but due to the precepts of the Bhagavan, it is established as the fourth root downfall of mantra. In short, mainly it speaks of abandoning the common loving-kindness of Sutra and Tantra, and incidentally it also includes abandoning compassion and aspirational and engaging Bodhicitta. Therefore, one should understand the treatises on the practice of the Paramitas and strive to adopt and abandon. Mainly, one should purify pure appearances through the generation stage of purifying the six realms as deities, and temporarily prevent this root downfall only by accomplishing benefit and happiness through loving-kindness towards all beings. The fifth root downfall, the essence is: due to the control of afflictions, the support and supported Bodhicitta of the uncommon body of Secret Mantra are degenerated, that is: the root of Dharma is Bodhicitta, abandoning it is the fifth. And, even a slight degeneration of Bodhicitta will turn into an arrow. The reason is: because it is the seed of supreme bliss, all attainments advance and retreat according to its presence or absence. That is: the root of Dharma is Bodhicitta. And, the Condensed Sutra says: If the bindu is abandoned, the seed that produces the supreme bliss of the yogis will be gone, where is liberation? Therefore, those who strive in vows should always abandon the momentary happiness of samsara.
