Because of the increase of wisdom, he becomes the chief of all, and it is said that he is equal to ten monks. If there are few who speak the Dharma, and if a layman or novice has not attained clairvoyance, and a monk must give the Dharma, then when listening to the Dharma, place an image or scripture, etc., in front of him, and if it can actually be used as a support, then prostrate to him, and in other cases, all services should be done except washing hands and feet and cooking porridge. In order to avoid worldly blame. The Dharma and so on are displayed in front, and the layman or novice prostrates with a mind of discipline. It is said like this. Abandoning non-supreme actions and prostrations, laying out cushions and standing up, and serving things to be done, etc., all are done by the disciplined. It is said like this. If he is the one who gives wisdom to oneself, even if he lives as a layman, he is Vajradhara himself, so he must be served properly and truthfully. In short, Venerable Gotsangpa generally expounded the characteristics of the guru, but contemplate me on your own head, pray, and just by him praying like that, all the faults in the continuum can be eliminated. All merits arise. It is necessary to have the ultimate realization of Mahamudra. If not, one cannot be the protector of sentient beings in the degenerate age. In order to make it arise, all the faults in one's own continuum need to be eliminated, all merits need to be perfected, and one needs to become a Buddha. It is said that this is what the Kagyu tradition agrees with. Secondly, regarding the first root downfall, the differences of the object are explained. The guru himself has not accomplished the activities of this life, and because of meager gains and honors, food, wealth, and women, etc., disputes caused by others are disputes arising from one's own interests, and are called non-saints. If the disciple engages in non-virtue and does not act according to the Dharma, and the guru becomes displeased and disputes because of this, this is a dispute arising from benefiting others, and is a holy guru. The Great Commentary says: For the sake of others, whichever guru's mind is displeased, that is the holy guru. For the sake of one's own interests, whichever guru's mind is displeased, that is not a holy guru. It is said like this. For that holy guru, it is not appropriate to be displeased because of hatred and anger, and to abandon him thinking that there will never be any benefit.

It is to subdue afflictions and to be the protector of all sentient beings. Therefore, the Dharma I taught could not subdue this person. Alas, that very thought is called being upset. If one is strongly disturbed by anger, etc., one will become a non-saint. So, if there is no great disturbance, will it not become a root downfall? It is not because that itself does not become a root downfall, but because the protector of all sentient beings, who has equanimity, who is as peaceful as the sky, is hated with a tormenting mind from all sides. To despise such a holy lama is a root downfall, but to despise a non-saint is not the completion of the first root downfall, because the disciple has entered into non-virtue, not because of being upset. The commentary says: A lama who has entered for his own benefit is not one who has entered into the ten non-virtues, this is certain. So it is said. Although the object of the first root downfall is not completely fulfilled for a non-saint, it is not permissible to despise him, even if one abandons love for an ordinary sentient being, it is the fourth root downfall, so what need is there to say about treating someone who is regarded as a guru? The thought is: For the guru, recognizing him as the guru himself, not confusing him with other thoughts, and generating strong afflictions such as anger, looking at him like an enemy, wanting to harm or despise him, arising strongly from the depths of one's heart, and not guarding, as it says in the Vajra Heart Ornament: From the heart, reviling the teacher. The actual basis is: The Condensed Tantra says: From disturbing the mind of the glorious lama, the root downfall of the disciples will become holding a rabbit. Therefore, striking the body or extremely reviling or separating the retinue or destroying, etc., expressing it in body and speech, despising by using very serious means. The time is: Although it is impossible to be abandoned by the mind in all circumstances. However, temporarily departing from the joy of the mind is called being displeased. When the first root downfall is completed, it is only generally established. In particular, the minds of the holy lamas who have already attained accomplishment cannot be made displeased in any way. It is also unreasonable that despising that holy lama will not become a root downfall. To say it correctly, whether the guru's mind is disturbed or not, whether he is displeased or not
