Or, because of knowing the ten things, namely, the substance of self-nature, freedom, or itself, one gains a little bit of the path, so the satisfaction manifested by form and so on is pride. If one has pride, one will despise those below, and therefore will lose compassion, so these two are the greatest faults. Using secret vows for public proclamation without any effect is breaking the vows. Stingily hoarding wealth, and enjoying the heavy wealth of the Sangha and stupas, etc., is greed for wealth. This is a very serious sin, using the wealth of the Buddha and Dharma, even relying on powerful antidotes, one cannot enjoy it without experiencing the ripening karmic results, but if an individual uses the wealth of the Sangha, one cannot purify it without experiencing the ripening karmic results, as stated in many sutras of the Mahayana and Hinayana. The yogi who accomplished the executioner of Yama, because he took a small sesame husk from the Sangha without giving it, resulted in being reborn as a hungry ghost in the form of the executioner of Yama, etc., which has been said many times. Therefore, scholars of today, please have deep faith in cause and effect. For your relatives, attendants, and disciples, etc., who are worthy of care, please do not let them freely enjoy the Sangha's wealth, which is heavier than a hundred thousand iron torches. Not having heard the Dharma is not understanding the correct path. The Great Commentary says: "Ignorance is being separated from the key instructions of the holy path." Therefore, the practice lineage believes that understanding the three vehicles, hearing extensively; understanding the five sciences, hearing much; completely and correctly understanding the key instructions of the path to liberation, hearing well; hearing the types of Dharma in other realms, hearing immeasurably; and ultimately reaching the hearing that has no aspect of not having heard, this is considered indispensable, and there is no difference from this. Lying is deceiving disciples. Not realizing the true nature is the mind falling away from the supreme state of bliss. Because the mind has fallen away, one cannot give empowerment, so it will lead to explaining the tantra without empowerment. Here, the Great Commentary says: "The so-called person who explains the tantra without empowerment should be abandoned." This saying is also about empowerment.

It is not merely referring to ritualistic actions, but rather to those who, having fallen from the state of supreme bliss, are still capable of performing them. Therefore, even if an immature empowerment is given, it is considered as if no empowerment has been given, because it is merely a performance of empowerment. Attachment to the enjoyments of samsara and heedlessness are like drinking alcohol, unable to maintain equanimity; craving for sexual intercourse is the desire for the pleasure of the two organs. Whoever possesses all or any of these qualities, even if they know a little about the ten matters and the activities of the mandala, those who desire liberation should not regard them as a guru, but should abandon them as if they were abandoning hell. In the Vajra Dakini it is also said: Whoever is wrathful and deceitful, Whose speech is very harsh, Who is content with only a few qualities, Should not rely on them as a guru. Therefore, one should carefully examine with an impartial mind and rely on one who is free from faults and possesses genuine qualities. For truly drawing near, Therefore, disciples should examine the guru like gold, without the slightest fault. In the Great Commentary it says: Having fully examined, one should rely on a guru who is free from faults, and one should abandon one who possesses faults. Generally, examination should be done beforehand, but if possessing those faults obstructs the path to liberation, then even if one has already become a teacher, one should abandon them. In the Great Commentary it says: Even if one has taken someone as a guru, if they do what should not be done, then a disciple who seeks liberation should abandon them. This is said including a refutation of previous commentaries. However, if one has already become a guru, one should please their mind with offerings of material goods and so forth, and having received their permission, make oneself not lose faith. One should not seek another guru again, nor should one make them unhappy, because this will cause the connection with the guru to go wrong later, and one will offend the lord of the twenty-five vows. Therefore, it is like how Jowo Je offered offerings to Shantipa and then requested not to accept the view of Cittamatra. Generally, many accomplished ones and other holy beings hide their true nature and remain in the world appearing like ordinary people, while some who only know a little about terminology and so on, pretend to possess qualities for the sake of gain and honor, which is a deceitful practice.
