When the warmth of the body fades and becomes an obstacle to attaining accomplishments, it is the time of the root downfall. Here, the author who refutes errors refutes the views of the Extensive Commentary, saying that it was not written by that teacher. Furthermore, the classifications of the root downfalls of the Kalachakra are also declared to be unreasonable. Later, the scholar Redawa said that in Tibet, many previous scholars had also made this tantra a subject of investigation, using this as a basis for negating the Kalachakra. In general, merely through investigation, it is impossible to establish anything, either nominally or actually, because even to the Blessed One himself, the heretics said, "Alas, what does the much-learned one say? It is like the footprints of a jackal." If such investigations were made, what need is there to mention others? Even within Buddhism itself, from the perspective of the Kashmir Vaibhashikas, Vasubandhu specifically established the tenets of the Sutrantikas; from the perspective of the Vaibhashikas, the noble Asanga specifically established the tenets of the Mind-Only school; from the perspective of the Mind-Only school, Nagarjuna's feet specifically established the tenets of the Madhyamaka; from the perspective of the Great Vehicle practitioners of the cause (referring to the Kriya and Charya tantras), the resultant Vajrayana was specifically established, and so on. If these were done, would we then accuse those dharmas of not being correct? Therefore, if the scholars of the Anuttarayoga tantra declare that the Kalachakra and the Prajnaparamita, etc., are not the words of the Buddha, it must be due to knowingly committing an offense, deliberately finding fault. If that is not the case, then it must be due to being arrogant from hearing too much, or being influenced by bad friends, or hating those who hold those dharmas. In any case, it is certain, so for the time being, it is not worth commenting too much on those people. The Extensive Commentary on the Root Downfalls and the Sanskrit versions of the late Nepalese translator Padma Ruci are in the Nepalese residence Pages 501 to 600. All of them are there. Later, the novice Khyunga Drak found the Sanskrit version of the Extensive Commentary there, translated it, and showed off in Tibet, so there appeared slanders saying that it was self-aggrandizement. However, Naktso and other later translators also translated it, and the circumstances of it being known as an unparalleled treatise in India are recorded in many old documents, so it is indeed a treatise that has become a reliable authority. Buton Chokyi Gyalpo believed that for those with sharp faculties, there is no need for the Great Empowerment of All-Encompassing, etc.

Even just getting angry at the lama can cause (a root downfall), and one should immediately confess, restrain oneself, and retake the vows to recover. For those with dull faculties, a great feast is needed, and it is said that purification is needed for six months, etc., which needs to be carefully considered. Even without a great feast, if one has the sharp faculties to recognize a root downfall, then it becomes sharp faculties only in the method of recognizing a root downfall. In general, sharp faculties in unsurpassed yoga are sharp faculties because they easily realize both vast methods and profound wisdom. Such a person, because the antidote is swift and firm, does not fall into the cause of root downfall. Even if one slightly errs due to the power of strong circumstances, one does not enjoy it from the depths of one's heart or associate with it, and the thought of the antidote is always present in one's mind, so one immediately cuts off and returns to the vows. Therefore, for this situation, it is very difficult for a root downfall to occur, so the above statement is reversed. You yourself also believe that in the case of the first root downfall, the cause is: In the Vajra Heart Ornament it says, "Slandering the teacher from the heart." This refers to slandering the teacher from the depths of one's heart due to hatred or jealousy. This contradicts the statement that a strong feast is needed. In short, a yogi who has obtained the four empowerments in sequence and practices their path must act without violating the vows because the continuity of their own view and meditative experience is uninterrupted. However, sometimes due to the influence of strong circumstances such as afflictions, one holds objects and subjects as ordinary, causing the continuity of meditative experience to be interrupted, and the unbearable strong arising of the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance arises in one's own mindstream, and again, with inverted clinging, one holds this as supreme and does not turn away from it, which is called a root downfall. Because of clinging to holding objects and subjects as ordinary, the view of mantra is interrupted. Because meditative experience disappears, meditation is interrupted. Because of the strong arising of the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, one creates the cause of falling into the lower realms. These contradict what was promised at the time of empowerment, etc., so the vows are broken. Because one clings to this and insists on not turning away from it, one cannot enter the ranks of confession, and if one spends years in this state, then temporarily in this life one will suffer from illness and weapons.
