Moreover, those that are easy to understand become wisdom even through explanation, and the subtle ones are clarified in their respective tantras and instructions. The uncommon unsurpassed pledges are the pledges of the four empowerments, such as the fourteen root downfalls. Third, regarding the actual classification, there is the general presentation of pledges and the specific explanation of vows. First, in the Ocean of Pledges of Glorious Self-Arisen Feet, there are twenty-five modes of conduct, the vows of the five families are two common vows. In particular, the unsurpassed vows, fourteen root downfalls, eight branches, fifteen downfalls for beginners, and seven concordant auxiliary branches. We shall explain these seven topics. First, for those who abide in the Vajrayana, there are twenty-five modes of conduct: killing, speaking falsely, stealing another's wife and property, and drinking alcohol to become intoxicated, these five are the basis for abandoning and training. Gambling, impure food, speaking evil treatises, practicing the religion of heretics and barbarians, these five are things that should not be done. One should not strike animals, children, women, men, and stupas. One should not be hostile to virtuous friends, lords, the sangha, the victors, and trustworthy ones. One should not be attached to forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and textures with the eyes and other senses. These are the initial modes of conduct. Thus, killing, lying, adultery, taking what is not given, and drinking alcohol to intoxication, these five are thieves who destroy one's own virtue and are ropes that bind one to samsara, therefore they should be abandoned. This is what the Shravakas and the Cause Vehicle must also abandon, because they are the five fundamental precepts. Gambling, such as playing dice, playing cards, and playing with pebbles, etc., are the activities of those who enjoy pleasure. Meat that has harmed others or caused others to harm is impure food. Evil treatises are the sophistical treatises of the materialists among the heretics, and other treatises that contradict the path of liberation. The religion of heretics is the religion of worldly deities. In the Great Commentary, it says: The religion of worldly deities is the practice of ancestral rites and the acts of sacrifice spoken of in the Vedas. Therefore, it is to please ancestors and gods.

These are the treatises on life sacrifices. Regarding the religion of the barbarians: those who follow Rama, wear white clothes, do not eat the meat of those who died by their own actions, but with the mantra of Bishimili, they cut the throats of livestock with curved knives to eat, and drink the juice of eggs. Such gatherings occur in places like Makha and Mogola's Baga. The religion of the barbarian leaders, the rats, and those who follow the wisdom of white clothes and honey, who are called the barbarian leopards. These five are five things that should not be done. Here, some explain speaking harsh words as speaking evil words. However, "speaking treatises of evil words" is condensed into one, speaking treatises of evil words. For harsh words, it is not appropriate to attach the sound of reading as a treatise and recitation. Therefore, in the commentary on the tantras, it says: gambling, impure food, reading evil words, the religion of spirits, the religion of non-gods (asuras), these five. Here, for the sake of easy understanding, it is said that the treatises of evil words, the religion of non-Buddhists, and the religion of barbarians are five. Similarly, killing fathers, men, and women by cows and sons, and destroying statues and stupas, etc., are also condensed into killing, and not doing these is the five that should not be killed. One should not deceive friends, masters, Buddhas, the Sangha, and those who trust oneself. One should not be completely attached to the five objects of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch with the senses. These are the twenty-five vows of the initial practitioner, as stated in the Kalachakra. Before entering the mandala, the guru should give them, and the disciple should promise to uphold them. In the lower three classes of tantras, although the term twenty-five vows does not explicitly appear, they must actually be protected. As stated in the Pungzang Tantra: "The Victorious One, I have spoken the Pratimoksha vows; householder mantra practitioners, abandon signs and rituals." Therefore, apart from the precepts arising from signs and rituals, one must abandon natural transgressions, because the householder mantra practitioners of Action Tantra and the renunciates of the Hearers are said to be the same. The Yoga Tantra says: "One should not drink alcohol, one should not eat meat, etc., actions that harm sentient beings, one should never do." Here are four sets of five.
