Since that itself is the nature of all lineages, the essence of body, speech, and mind is glorious Hevajra. Where was it heard? Vajra Lady is its wisdom; for example, it was heard when residing in the place called "Bhaga" because it destroys all afflictions, or when residing in the palace of Dharma-arising, represented by the shape and sound of the Lady's Bhaga, in order to subdue those with attachment, together with the retinue mentioned below. What is the need for this "E-vam Ma-ya" to be taught at the beginning of all the Victorious One's teachings? If it is said that the meaning of "this word" can also be shown by "idam" and "etad," then Lord Naropa explains that the Tathagatas express the letter "E-vam" with a symbol that clearly reveals skillful means and wisdom. This well shows the five perfections of the beginning of all Sutras and Tantras: "this word" summarizes all the Tantras, which is the perfection of Dharma; the word "I" mainly refers to Vajrasattva, and by implication, it also includes eighty million Bodhisattvas such as Maitreya as the retinue, and Yoginis such as Locana equal to the dust particles of Mount Meru, which is the perfection of the retinue; "at the time of hearing" is the perfection of time; the Blessed One is the essence of the body, speech, and mind of all the Tathagatas, which indicates the perfection of the teacher, the essence of sixteen-armed Hevajra; "residing in the Bhaga of the Vajra Lady" indicates the perfection of the place. Thirdly, for those of inferior faculties, the meaning of the Tantra is explained in sequence. In Naropa's commentary, it says: "From the concise explanation, how does it arise? It is clarified by the detailed explanation. The further detailed explanation is the hidden meaning. There are three kinds of explanations of the Tantra. The yogi who desires the manifestation of the Vajrayana should know this." As it is said, the first chapter concisely explains the three: cause, path, and result. The first examination from the second chapter onwards explains in detail. The later examination supplements and explains very thoroughly, there are three. The first of these also has three: initiating the discussion with the questions and answers of the four heroes, briefly explaining the order of the path to be attained, and the name of the chapter. The first is divided into two.

An exhortation to listen to the secret essence of the Thus-gone Ones, the four bodies. It is extensively taught through the questions and answers of the four bodhisattvas. Firstly, the essence of the body, speech, and mind of all the Thus-gone Ones is the most secret of the secrets of the venerable ones. Then, the Bhagavan spoke, "Emaho! Great Bodhisattva, Vajra Essence, Great Compassion, well done! Vajrasattva, and Great Bodhisattva, and Great Samaya Bodhisattva, the essence called Hevajra, listen!" Thus he spoke. There are four aspects to this. Firstly, according to the meaning of the words or letters, having gone to where one should go, having attained the unsurpassed state, having abandoned the two obscurations along with their imprints. Or, the sound of 'gone' refers to realization, because one has comprehended the suchness of reality as it is, and the knowable phenomena as many as they are, therefore, Thus-gone One, that is, the Buddhas such as Vairochana. All means without exception. Their body means the three bodies and so on. Speech means entering through the sixty branches and so on. Mind means the wisdom that knows as it is and as many as there are. The essence of these is that which has become the nature of all of them. Venerable means faith arising from the sound of Bhattaraka, liberating the faithful from samsara. Secret means not being the object of worldly beings and shravakas. Most secret means not being taught in the Paramita vehicle. Extremely secret means being hidden even in the lower tantra classes, that secret is what is intended to be taught. Secondly, if explained according to the general meaning in accordance with the Paramitas, having gone into the realm of suchness, the Victorious One inseparable from the Dharmakaya, the three secrets of all of them, as stated in the Inconceivable Secret Sutra, like the extent of space, the body of the Thus-gone One pervades, and showing in accordance with the appearances of the disciples to be tamed, both pure and impure, is the secret of the body of the Thus-gone One. The infinite languages in accordance with the thoughts of the disciples to be tamed, teaching without exception the eighty-four thousand doors of Dharma, is the secret of speech. The qualities gathered by abandonment and attainment, such as the ten powers, the four fearlessnesses, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha. Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas.
