You are, the nature that is free from one and other. Thus it is said. It is not false that is neither one nor other, because conventional truth is not deceptive in the appearance of illusion, and ultimate truth is true in its nature. If you say that both are true, then the conventional appearance is emptiness in which self-nature is not established, and the ultimate truth transcends the realm of mind, having completely abandoned the distinctions of being established as true, and there is nothing to assert. For example, an illusion is not truly existent as horses, cows, etc., but it appears as those things. And among other examples, like mirages, echoes of rocks, cataracts, images, rainbows, cloud lightning, etc., they appear even though they do not exist, and this is similar. As it is said in the Madhyamaka Bodhicitta Commentary: From ignorance to old age and death, the twelve branches ultimately, the things that arise in dependence, I regard as like dreams and illusions. And in Naropa's Summary of Views, it is also said: Self-awareness, the very nature of freedom from elaboration, appears and is empty, is empty and appears, therefore appearance and emptiness are inseparable, like the moon in water. Thus it is said. Therefore, the Bhagavan knows all three realms in this way, and in order for sentient beings to realize this truth, he has taught various methods. The third is, after that, one should clearly explain. Thus it is said, in this way, the deluded samsara is the side of consciousness, the non-deluded nirvana is the side of wisdom, understanding for oneself from where the root of these two comes, how it arises, and being able to show it to others, also depends on the profound interdependence of causes and conditions. For example, just as one can recognize whether one's own appearance is beautiful or ugly from a clear mirror, by relying on the guru's instructions and the stainless sutras and shastras, generating the wisdom of hearing and thinking, thereby understanding the reality of the two truths. Just as the appearance of smoke can infer the presence of fire, generating the realization of practice in the continuum also symbolizes the wisdom of transformation. In short, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, although from the beginning they have transcended the limits of elaboration, also appear as dependent arising, relying on the profound wisdom of birth and training, realizing this without error, and with compassion for future followers

Therefore, this treatise will clearly explain without concealment. Second, regarding establishing appearances as mind, there are four aspects: explaining the dependent origination of the five entering consciousnesses and establishing them as mind; refuting non-mind misconceptions; presenting proofs of no other agent; sixth, explaining the connection of mind. The first aspect is: 'The five gates are not established.' Thus it is said. That is, arising from the co-emergent Alaya consciousness as the cause, together with the afflicted mind; the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body as the dominant condition, these five gates and the consciousnesses related to them, together with the immediately following mind, are the objective condition, the respective objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, meeting and gathering, relying on contact, due to taking pleasant and agreeable objects such as beauty and euphony, generating the affliction of desire; due to abandoning unpleasant and disagreeable objects such as ugliness and discord, generating hatred; due to not realizing the nature of equanimity in the intermediate state, generating ignorance, thereby accumulating karma. So, how does this lead to wandering in samsara? It is caused by clinging to the appearance of objects as real. Then, from what causes and conditions do these appearances as five objects of grasping arise? If one examines well with the eye of wisdom born from hearing, thinking, and meditating, then the consciousnesses of the five gates arising from the power of mind and consciousness merely appear as their respective five objects, and apart from that, there are no other causes and conditions such as the atoms asserted by the Hearers and Vaibhashikas, or the self asserted by the Samkhyas, etc., and the self and agent asserted by the non-Buddhists are not established in external objects. As Aryadeva said in the *Compendium of Wisdom*: 'There is no part, there is no external object, there is no object to be abandoned separately, experience is like a dream.' The second aspect is: 'When there is no connection, therefore.' Thus it is said. If external material objects, such as form, etc., truly exist apart from the internal eye consciousness, etc., then there is no connection of identity between consciousness and object, nor is there a connection of arising from that. Since the scope of object consciousness cannot be indicated and is not established as a tangible thing, therefore from the unobstructed consciousness, although it shows the opposing obstructed material
