Moreover, the four dhyanas and the immeasurables are the cause of perfection, and the absorption of the formless realms is also the cause of the perfection of the formless realms. In the Great Vehicle Treatise *Uttaratantra Shastra (Ratnagotravibhāga)*, the explanation of the chapter on the activities of the Tathāgata, i.e., the fourth chapter, is completed. Third, the complete activities of this treatise are threefold: benefit, how it was made, and dedication and meaning summary. The first part has five points: explaining the meaning of inconceivable, briefly explaining the merits, explaining the differences between generosity and the other three, explaining its reasons, and extensively explaining the benefits. The first point is: The realm of the Buddha, the enlightenment of the Buddha, the Dharma of the Buddha, and the activities of the Buddha, even pure beings cannot conceive of them; this is the realm of activity of the guides. As it is said, the realm of the Buddha, which is naturally pure, the state with temporary defilements, which is the *Tathāgatagarbha*; and the state of being completely purified of temporary defilements, attaining the great enlightenment of the Buddha; the Dharma of the Buddha, which is inseparably possessed of great enlightenment, such as the special qualities of the ten powers; and the ability to obtain the qualities, the activities of the Buddha are naturally accomplished, continuously accomplishing activities. The reality of the four vajra places, which are in accordance with the accomplishment of the Three Jewels, is how? Even beings who dwell on the great earth, who are mostly purified of temporary defilements, cannot conceive of it, let alone ordinary beings and *Śrāvakas* and *Pratyekabuddhas*? Because, as previously stated, it is inconceivable. So, whose realm of activity are these? This vajra position is the only realm of activity of the wisdom of the complete Buddhas, the guides of all beings. The second point is: The wise who have faith in the realm of the Victorious One will become vessels of the accumulation of Buddha's qualities, and because they rejoice greatly in the accumulation of inconceivable qualities, they will overcome the merits of all beings. As it is said, the wise *bodhicitta*

Those courageous ones who particularly believe in these four realms of meaning, which are solely the domain of wisdom for the complete and perfect Buddhas, become vessels for the immeasurable collection of qualities of the Buddhas, such as power. Because from the awakening of the Mahayana lineage, the ultimate fruit will be quickly obtained. Similarly, because the benefits of manifesting joy and particularly believing in these four realms, which possess a collection of qualities that ordinary people cannot conceive of, are extremely numerous, it will overwhelm all collections of merit arising from generosity, etc., of all sentient beings unrelated to it. Third, there are three divisions for explaining the distinctions: explaining the distinctions from generosity, discipline, and meditation. The first is: If one seeking enlightenment adorns a golden field with jewels, equal to the dust of Buddha-fields, constantly offering it daily to all Dharma Kings, another who hears just one word from this, and having heard it, believes in it, this generosity, the merit born from it, that merit is much greater. It is said that a giver who seeks enlightenment, with a land made of gold and adorned with jewels, equal to the number of dust particles in the Buddha-fields, constantly offers it daily to the Dharma King Buddhas, etc. From that merit, if another person hears just one word from this scripture that teaches the four realms, and having heard it, possesses faith and believes, then this person's virtue, compared to the virtue born from generosity, will obtain much greater merit. The second is: If a wise person desiring unsurpassed enlightenment, for many kalpas, without effort of body, speech, and mind, protects the stainless discipline, another who hears just one word from this, and having heard it, believes in it, this discipline, the merit born from it, that merit is much greater. It is said that if a wise person wants to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, for many kalpas, also from the three doors of body, speech, and mind as a basis, without diligence and effort, protects his own discipline without the stain of transgression, another person if from these four realms

If one hears even a single word from this scripture, and after hearing it, one also believes, then its merit will be much greater than the merit arising from moral discipline. Third, whoever here meditates on the samadhi that extinguishes the fire of the three realms' afflictions, and cultivates the means to attain the ultimate and complete Bodhi, the unchanging abode of gods and Brahma, if others hear even a single word from this and, after hearing it, also believe, they will gain much more merit than the merit arising from samadhi. It is said that whoever is intelligent, in this world, extinguishes the fire of the afflictions of the three realms, perfects the four samadhis of the abode of gods and the four immeasurable minds of the abode of Brahma, and cultivates the means of unchanging complete Bodhi, if others hear even a single word from this and, after hearing it, also believe, then its benefit will be much greater than the merit arising from samadhi. Fourth, the reason for this is that giving only accomplishes enjoyment, keeping the precepts only leads to higher realms, and meditation only abandons afflictions, but wisdom abandons all afflictions and objects of knowledge, therefore, this is supreme, and its cause is hearing this. It is said that, why is the benefit so great? Because giving alone, without being grasped by wisdom, only accomplishes enjoyment, keeping the precepts alone only leads to higher realms, and meditation only suppresses afflictions, but the wisdom that realizes the four places completely abandons the obscurations of afflictions and the obscurations of knowledge, along with their habitual tendencies. Therefore, the wisdom that realizes the profound reality is superior to giving and so on. Therefore, studying the scriptures that teach the four places through hearing and contemplation has special benefits, because the realization of wisdom, which is superior to the merits of giving and so on, its cause is only hearing, believing, and studying this scripture that teaches the four places. Fifth, there are five ways to extensively explain the benefits: attaining Bodhi, strengthening the mind of Bodhi, attaining completeness, incidentally showing the certainty of the accumulations, and abandoning obstacles. First, the place and it
