Pages 401 to 461. Pages 401 to 461. The stages of entering wisdom. The activity is particularly excellent. First: Just as when the sun scorches, at the very moment, lotuses and others bloom, and water lilies close up; the sun is without discrimination regarding the qualities of opening and the faults of closing for water-born flowers. Here, the sun of the noble ones is the same. It is said. How is it? The sun's rays are extremely hot. At the very moment when the sun scorches, the lotus flowers bloom, and the water lily flowers close. But the sun does not think, 'I will make the lotuses bloom,' or 'I will make the water lilies close.' The sun's orb shines without discrimination on the qualities of opening and the faults of closing. Likewise, here too, the sun of the great noble, the complete and perfect Buddha, similarly, when scorched by the rays of the sacred Dharma, at the very moment, the lotus of the disciple's wisdom blooms, and the water lily of the non-disciple's mind closes. But the Buddha does not discriminate between their benefit and harm, and thus shines. Second: Just as the sun, without discrimination, simultaneously radiates its own light, causing lotuses to bloom and others to ripen; likewise, the sun of the Tathagata, the rays of the sacred Dharma, shine without discrimination on the lotuses of those to be tamed. It is said. For example, just as the sun's orb, without discrimination, simultaneously radiates its own infinite light, causing the lotus flowers to open and bloom, and causing other abundant harvests to ripen; the meaning is the same. The sun of the Tathagata, the complete and perfect Buddha, also simultaneously radiates the infinite light of the sacred Dharma, causing the lotus flowers of those to be tamed to bloom with petals of virtue, and causing the harvest of merit to ripen. But it shines on them without discrimination, naturally accomplishing. Third: With the Dharmakaya and Rupakaya, the all-knowing sun rising in the city of Bodhicitta radiates the light of wisdom to beings.

Thus it is said. For example, just as the sun's disc rises in the expanse of the sky and dispels the darkness of the world with its rays, so too, for one's own sake, the ultimate Dharmakāya, and for the sake of others, the conventional Rūpakāya, the circle of both being complete, the essence of enlightenment, free from all extremes of elaboration, having arisen in the manifest sky, the sun of the all-knowing Dharma King also, with the knowledge of wisdom, radiates various rays of the sacred Dharma to all beings who are to be tamed, thereby dispelling the darkness of ignorance. The fourth is: For whatever reason, the pure beings to be tamed, in all the vessels of water, the image of the Sugata's sun, countless appear simultaneously. Thus it is said. For example, just as the image of the sun appears simultaneously in many vessels filled with clear water, so too, for whatever reason, the infinite stream of beings to be tamed, from afflictions and so on, being completely purified from defilements, therefore, like a vessel filled with clear water, to all, the Rūpakāya of the Sugata, like the image of the sun, countless appear simultaneously, thereby accomplishing perfect benefit for others. The fifth has two parts: brief explanation, and detailed explanation. The first is: Always pervading all, in the center of the Dharmadhātu sky, the Buddha sun to be tamed, how does it descend appropriately on the mountain? Thus it is said. Constantly in time, and without differentiation in Dharma nature, pervading all dharmas, the Dharmadhātu is extremely pure, like the center of the sky, the perfect Buddha, like the great sun, rises, and for the beings to be tamed, like mountains, how does it gradually descend and appear appropriately and in accordance with their capacity? The second is: How the vast sun with a thousand rays rises, after illuminating all the worlds, gradually, like descending on superior, intermediate, and inferior mountains, the Victorious One's sun gradually descends on the assembly of sentient beings. Thus it is said. How is it? The sun with vast rays and thousands of rays, having risen in the expanse of the sky, illuminates the worlds of the four continents, and then gradually descends first on the highest mountain,
