The third example meaning has three parts: example, meaning, and combined explanation. First: Just as the essence of grain covered with chaff, Ordinary people cannot use it as food, Whoever seeks food and other meanings, They should extract it from the chaff. It is said, how is it? The essence of rice covered with chaff cannot be used by ordinary people. Whoever seeks food and other things to be used, they should extract the rice from the chaff. Second: Likewise, sentient beings have afflictions, The Tathagata mixed with defilements is also like that, If not liberated from the combination of afflictions and defilements, The actions of the Victorious One will not appear in the three realms. It is said, likewise, the Tathagatagarbha, which is mixed with the defilements of afflictions that sentient beings have, will not manifest the actions of the Tathagata in the three realms until it is liberated from the combination of afflictions and defilements. Only when it is free from obscurations will it rejoice in the actions of the Buddha. Third: Just as the essence of rice, wheat, and barley, Not separated from the chaff, not well processed, Ordinary people cannot use it as delicious food. Likewise, sentient beings have the Dharma's freedom, If the chaff of afflictions is not removed from their bodies, They cannot give to those who are troubled by hunger and afflictions, The taste of the joy of the true Dharma. It is said, how is it? The essence of rice, wheat, and barley, if it is not taken out of the chaff, if the chaff is not removed, etc., if it is not well processed, ordinary people cannot use it as delicious food, how is it? Similarly, the Dharma's freedom that sentient beings have, the Tathagatagarbha, when it is in a body that has not been freed from the chaff of afflictions, at that time, the beings who are hungry and afflicted by afflictions will not be able to taste the joy of the true Dharma. The fourth example meaning has three parts: example, meaning, and combined explanation. First: Just as if there is gold from a merchant who is good at trading, Fallen into a rotten and filthy place, That gold with indestructible Dharma nature is like that, Residing there for hundreds of millions of years, A deity with pure divine eyes, seeing it there

It is like saying to someone, "There is gold here, purify this supreme gem, and use the gem to accomplish your work." Thus it is said. For example, when people are walking on the road, some people, due to forgetfulness and other reasons, a large piece of gold may fall into a place where garbage accumulates. That gold has the nature of not decaying or disappearing for many years. It will not be damaged in the garbage heap, and it will remain as it was for hundreds of years. A deity with pure divine eyes sees that there is gold in the garbage heap, and says to someone who wants gold, "There is gold in this garbage heap, purify this supreme gem, and use the gem to accomplish ornaments and other works." It is like this. Second, the Thus-gone One is also like this, seeing sentient beings drowning. In the impurity of afflictions, having all virtues, in order to purify the mud of afflictions, universally raining down the nectar of Dharma. Thus it is said. Similarly, the perfectly enlightened Great Sage also sees that sentient beings drowning in the mud of afflictions, which is like an impure object, have virtues, that is, all beings have the essence of the Tathagata, and in order to purify that mud of afflictions, he pours down a great rain of the nectar of the sacred Dharma upon all beings. Third, like gold falling into filth, the gods having seen it, in order to make it completely pure, diligently show it to people. Like this, all the victors, seeing sentient beings drowning, in the great impurity of afflictions, thus for them, sentient beings teach the Dharma. Thus it is said. For example, the gold that has fallen into the place of rotting garbage, the gods see it, and in order to completely purify the dirt of that gold, they diligently show that extremely beautiful gold to people and have them clean it, just like that. Similarly, the all-knowing victors see that sentient beings are drowning in the great impurity of afflictions, like the precious essence of the perfect Buddha, existing in the hearts of sentient beings.
