Now, the teaching is: The nature is immutable, because of goodness and complete purity. Therefore, this Suchness is said to be similar to the image of gold. It is said that the nature of the mind, even when connected with endless suffering from afflictions, is still completely pure, luminous, and immutable, therefore it is called Suchness. It is like unchanging pure gold, which does not change its nature in any situation. Just as gold is beautiful and can be made into ornaments, its nature is good and supreme. Just as the essence of gold has no impurities, it has been without afflictions and completely pure from the beginning, therefore, the Dharmadhatu Suchness is said to be similar to the image and nature of pure gold. Third, the metaphorical meaning of lineage has three points: the metaphor of two lineages, from which the way to attain the three bodies is explained, and combining them with the metaphor. The first point is: Like a treasure and a fruit tree, these two lineages should be understood, the beginningless self-nature exists and the correct attainment is supreme. It is said that the so-called Buddha-nature should also be understood as two types: one is not obtained by effort, similar to a treasure under the ground, the lineage that has existed in the nature of the mind from the beginningless time; the other is like a fruit tree, newly growing through conditions, correctly obtained through the conditions of hearing and thinking, so that the ability becomes the supreme growing lineage. The second point is: From these two lineages, it is expected to obtain the three bodies of the Buddha. The cause of the first body is the first lineage, and the second lineage is the cause of the latter two bodies. It is said that from these two, the self-nature cause and the growing lineage, it is expected to obtain the three bodies of the Buddha of complete fruition. That is, first, by perfecting the collection of many wisdoms and being free from all temporary defilements, the first body, the Dharmakaya with twofold purity, is attained. Second, through the growth of the growing lineage, perfecting the collection of merit, the latter two bodies are attained,

Both the Sambhogakaya and Nirmanakaya are attained. At this point, Je Trinley Zhab said: Nowadays, most Maitreya followers acknowledge that the expanding lineage is accumulated, and to prove this, they quote "Perfectly taking is the supreme." They proclaim like a rabbit's cry that the perfectly taken root of virtue is the expanding lineage. However, the venerable Rangjung Dorje (the Third Karmapa, 1284-1339) said: Some may think that the expanding lineage is newly arisen, but it is not so, etc. This treatise agrees with that view, therefore it is not considered that the perfectly taken root of virtue is the expanding lineage. Although it has existed from beginningless time, it is obscured by obscurations in the sentient being stage, therefore the maturation and activity have not expanded, so it cannot accomplish vast benefit for sentient beings. On the path of learning, by perfectly taking the root of virtue of the accumulation of merit, the power of that lineage is expanded, therefore at the time of Buddhahood, obscurations are purified, and the activity of the Rupakaya adorned with the thirty-two marks is expanded, therefore the scriptures such as "Perfectly" etc. are taught. Here, the saying "like a fruit tree" is also the same in meaning as the two verses mentioned above, such as "like the fruit of the Amra tree etc." Therefore, the lineage indicated by the metaphors of bark and sprout mentioned in the nine metaphors and nine meanings must also be considered as the perfectly taken root of virtue, otherwise, is it not too extreme? Thus he said. The third is: The beauty of the Svabhavikakaya, should be known as a precious statue, its nature is not made, because qualities are a treasure of jewels, possessing great Dharma kingship, complete like a Chakravartin, because of the nature of an image, the Nirmanakaya is like a golden statue. Thus it is said. The ultimate Svabhavikakaya, whose nature is luminosity and whose splendor of qualities is supremely beautiful, should be known as being like a Buddha statue made of precious jewels. Because it is naturally accomplished from the beginning and not newly made through effort, and like an inexhaustible treasure of jewels of qualities such as strength.
