Improper attention, abiding in the nature of mind, through improper attention, reveals karma and afflictions. From the water of karma and afflictions, arise aggregates, sense bases, and elements. Like that destruction and arising, it is the transformation of birth and death. As it is said, like the wheel of wind abiding in the sky, the conceptual thought of improper attention is what obscures the clear light of the nature of mind. Like wind relying on water, improper attention greatly opens the opportunity to generate karma and afflictions. Like the earth arising from churning the wheel of water, karma and afflictions, like water, give rise to aggregates, sense bases, and elements with outflows, births gathered by suffering. Like the destruction and arising of the vessel world, the aggregates, elements, and sense bases with outflows are also the transformation of birth and death. The second has two parts: the essence is without birth and cessation, and the way in which it is purified by defilements. The first: The nature of mind is like the sky, Like the element, without cause or condition. There is no accumulation, no birth, No destruction, and no abiding. As it is said, the clear light of the nature of mind, the dharmadhatu, is like the uncompounded element of space, not depending on the cause of appropriation, nor depending on the co-occurring condition, therefore it does not depend on their accumulation. Therefore, there is no first birth, no final destruction, and no intermediate abiding, so it is never changed by the three characteristics of conditioned phenomena. The second: Whatever is the clear light of the nature of mind, That is unchanging like the sky. Desire, etc., arise from false thoughts, Sudden defilements do not pollute it. As it is said, the clear light of the nature of mind of beings, which is the tathagatagarbha, is like the nature of the sky, which is not changed by clouds and smoke, etc. It is never changed by purity and impurity, etc. From the thought of grasping what is not true, the afflictions such as desire, hatred, and ignorance arising from improper attention
