is the Extremely Joyful Ground. The difference in definition is: having attained this ground, being close to Bodhi, and accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, one becomes extremely joyful, therefore it is the Extremely Joyful Ground. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: Being close to Bodhi, seeing the accomplishment of the benefit of sentient beings, great joy arises, therefore it is called Extremely Joyful. Thus it is said. The difference in complete purification is: for all bases, having no false thoughts, etc., this ground is attained by practicing the ten dharmas. As it is said in the Ornament of Clear Realization: By ten complete purifications, the first ground is attained. And so on. The difference in what should be practiced is: the Bodhisattva who abides on this ground generally practices all ten perfections, but especially emphasizes the perfection of generosity, wanting to satisfy all sentient beings. As it is said in the Sutra of the Ten Grounds: In the first ground, among the ten perfections, this perfection of generosity has a greater portion of dharma, but it is not that the others are not practiced. Thus it is said. The difference in complete purification is: as it is said in the Ten Grounds Sutra: In this Extremely Joyful Ground, with vast vision and the power of aspiration, many Buddhas appear, many hundreds of thousands of Buddhas appear, many thousands of hundreds of Buddhas appear, and so on, many billions of trillions of hundreds of thousands of Buddhas appear. Having seen them, one makes offerings with superior great intention, and serves them. Similarly, one also makes images of the Sangha. One also dedicates those roots of virtue to unsurpassed Bodhi. Also, one hears the Dharma from those Buddhas, receives it, and remembers it. One also diligently practices those Dharmas. One also completely ripens sentient beings with the four objects of gathering. Thus it is said. Therefore, having worshiped and taken care of the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha for many eons, having completely ripened sentient beings, and having dedicated the roots of virtue to unsurpassed Bodhi, these three causes make his roots of virtue greatly and completely purified.

No. As it is said: For example, the gold sale-sbram itself, when repeatedly burned by goldsmiths, becomes more and more refined, completely pure, and can be used as desired. Similarly, the roots of virtue of a bodhisattva abiding in the first ground become extremely refined, completely pure, and can be used as desired. Thus it is said. The difference in realization is: In general, these ten grounds are the same in the nature of realization in equanimity, but they differ individually depending on the difference in subsequent guidance. If we explain these ten individual differences, then the first ground realizes the meaning of the all-pervading dharmadhatu, and thereby thoroughly attains the equality of self and others. Thus, in the Madhyantavibhāga it is also said: "The meaning of all-pervading." The difference in abandonment is: If considered from the perspective of the afflictive obscurations, there are eighty-two afflictions to be abandoned on the path of seeing, and all of these are completely abandoned. If considered from the perspective of the obscurations to knowledge, there are three types, and those like those existing on the skin are abandoned. One is also free from the five fears. In the Sutra of the Ten Grounds of the Noble Ones, it is also said: "As soon as one attains the Extremely Joyful Ground, one is immediately free from the five fears, namely: the fear of lack of livelihood, the fear of lack of discipline, the fear of death, the fear of evil destinies, and the fear of feeling ashamed in the assembly." Thus it is said. The difference in birth is: The bodhisattva who abides on this ground will mostly be reborn as a universal monarch who rules Jambudvipa, thereby removing the stain of miserliness from sentient beings. Thus, in the Ratnavali it is also said: "By its ripening result, one will become the great sovereign of Jambudvipa." These differences in birth that are spoken of are considered in terms of their own nature, but for the sake of benefiting others, they will manifest in various forms according to what needs to be tamed, as it is said in the Jataka tales. The difference in power is: As it is said, a bodhisattva abiding on the Extremely Joyful Ground initiates diligence with desire, and if they practice diligently, in a moment, an instant, a short time, they can attain and enter into one hundred samadhis, and see one hundred Buddhas.
