In reality, it is said that "Nirvana is the alteration of conditioned phenomena," and so on. However, it is not that there is no thing, as it is said in the same text, "In it, non-existence is not existence." So, how should it be understood? It means that all thoughts clinging to things and non-things have ceased, and that which is beyond thought and inexpressible is called Nirvana. As it is said in the Ratnavali, "The cessation of clinging to things and non-things is called Nirvana." Also, in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra, it is said: When things and non-things do not remain before the mind, then, since there is no other way, one will be completely pacified in objectlessness. Also, in the Noble Brahma's Inquiry Sutra, it is said: What is called complete Nirvana is that all signs are completely pacified and free from all movement. Also, in the White Lotus of the True Dharma, it is said: O Kashyapa, realizing the equality of all dharmas is Nirvana. Thus, Nirvana is merely the pacification of the activity of the mind, and apart from that, no arising or ceasing, abandonment or attainment, or any other dharma can be established. Therefore, in the Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way, it is said: There is no abandoning, no attaining, no cessation, no permanence, no annihilation, no arising; this is Nirvana. Thus, since there is no arising or ceasing, abandoning or attaining, and so on, there is nothing in Nirvana that is self-made, self-cultivated, or self-transformed. As it is said in the Akashagarbha Sutra: In this, there is nothing to be made clear, there is nothing to be established, look at reality as reality, seeing reality as it is, one is liberated. Thus, these words of wisdom or knowing one's own mind are also from the perspective of conceptual thought, but the meaning of wisdom or mind is beyond what can be known or expressed. As it is said in the Sutra Requested by Raśmivimalagarbha: The Perfection of Wisdom is not to be expressed by any dharma, it is beyond all words. Also, in the Praise to the Mother by Rāhula, it is said: Beyond speech, thought, and expression, the Perfection of Wisdom; unborn, unceasing, the nature of space itself; the field of activity of self-knowing primordial wisdom; the three times

Homage to the Mother of the Victorious Ones! The method of knowing wisdom has been explained. Now, I will explain the method of familiarizing oneself with the mind or wisdom. If all phenomena are emptiness, is there any need to familiarize oneself with that knowledge? Yes, there is a need. For example, even though silver ore has the nature of silver, silver does not appear until it has been smelted. If you want mercury, you must smelt the silver ore. Similarly, although all phenomena are inherently empty and free from all elaborations, sentient beings experience various appearances and sufferings, so it is necessary to know and familiarize oneself with them. Therefore, one should know as one practices. There are four ways to familiarize oneself with it: preliminary practices, main practice, subsequent practice, and realization. Among these, the preliminary practice is to tame the mind. How to tame it? In the "Seven Hundred Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra," it says: "A son or daughter of good family should set up a seat in a solitary place, delight in a place free from bustle, not pay attention to any signs, and sit in the lotus position." and so on, and do it according to the preliminary practices of Mahāmudrā. Then, the various methods of the main practice are also done according to the instructions of Mahāmudrā, without thinking about good or bad, acceptance or rejection, and without effort or fabrication. Thus, Tilopa said: "Do not think, do not contemplate, do not know, do not meditate, do not analyze, leave it in its own place." In "Resting the Mind Itself," it also says: "Listen, son, what do you discriminate? Here there is neither binding nor liberation, do not be distracted, do not fabricate, leave it in its natural state. Alas! Weariness is suddenly refreshed." Nāgārjuna also said: "Like an elephant tamed, the mind becomes firm, cutting off coming and going, it naturally slows down. Thinking like this, what need do I have for Dharma?" He also said: "Do not think about anything, do not contemplate anything, do not fabricate or decorate, leave it naturally relaxed. Non-fabrication is the nature of non-arising, this is the path traveled by all the Buddhas of the three times." Rikchok Wangchuk (Mountain Hermit) also said: "Do not see fault in anything, do not take anything as something, do not desire warmth signs, etc., although it is said that there is no meditation, do not indulge in laziness and indifference, constantly remember and meditate."
