If one's anger is strong, then cultivate loving-kindness as an antidote. Generally, there are three types of loving-kindness as mentioned above. Here, it refers to loving-kindness focused on sentient beings, which means first contemplating accomplishing benefit and happiness for the sentient being who is most dear to your heart, and cultivating the corresponding loving-kindness. Then, treat those who are neutral in the same way. Then, treat ordinary people in the same way. Then, treat those who are nearby in the same way. Then, treat those who live in your own village in the same way. After that, cultivate in the same way for the ten directions, starting with the east. If one's delusion is strong, then cultivate dependent origination as an antidote. As it says in the "Sālu Sprout Sutra": "Monks, whoever knows this Sālu sprout knows dependent origination. Whoever knows dependent origination knows the Dharma. Whoever knows the Dharma knows the Buddha." Furthermore, from the perspective of arising in accordance with the order, there is dependent origination of samsara, and from the perspective of reversing the order, there is dependent origination of nirvana. The former again has two aspects: external dependent origination and internal dependent origination. This again has two aspects: internal dependent origination associated with causes and internal dependent origination associated with conditions. Among these, the first is: "Monks, because this exists, that arises; because this arises, that arises. For example, conditioned by ignorance, there is action; conditioned by birth, there is aging and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil arise. Thus, this great mass of suffering arises." It is also said that if this is considered in terms of realms, it is in the desire realm. If it is considered in terms of birth-places, it is in womb-birth. That is, initially, only ignorance, which is being deluded about what should be known, is established. Aroused by this, one performs contaminated virtuous, non-virtuous, or neutral actions. This is called action conditioned by ignorance. The mind stained by the seed of that action is called consciousness conditioned by action. By the power of karma, the mind is transformed into a perverted state, causing it to...

Having conception in the womb, becoming gelatinous and so on, that is called name and form because of consciousness. Name and form themselves increase, and the senses such as eyes and ears become complete. That is called the six sense bases because of name and form. The aggregation and complete enjoyment of the three, the senses such as eyes, objects, and consciousness, is called contact because of the six sense bases. As contact arises, so arises the feeling of pleasure, pain, or equanimity. That is called feeling because of contact. From feeling arises liking, attachment, and especially attachment. That is called craving because of feeling. Thus, regarding attachment, not letting go of the thought of not being separated, seeking outwardly and striving for meaning, is called grasping because of craving. Thus, when striving for meaning, again existence arises, and actions of body, speech, and mind are fully initiated. That is called existence because of grasping. Whatever aggregates of the five that are born from that action are accomplished, that is called birth because of existence. The increase and maturation of the aggregates that are born and manifestly accomplished is aging, and destruction is death. That is called aging and death because of birth. At the time of death, due to ignorance, there is manifest clinging and attachment, and the complete inner suffering is sorrow. From sorrow arises speech, which is lamentation. Experiencing discomfort with the collection of the five consciousnesses is suffering. Mental suffering with attention is displeasure. Furthermore, whatever proximate defilements are like this are called disturbances. It should also be understood that there are three parts. Ignorance, craving, and grasping are the three defilements. Action and existence are the two actions. Consciousness and the seven others are suffering. Thus, in the Madhyamaka Dependent Arising it says: Whatever the twelve branches are, should be understood in three parts. The dependent arising spoken by the Able One, defilements, actions, and suffering, are all included in those three parts. The first, eighth, and ninth are defilements, the second and
