Thus it is composed. This is called the constant diligence of a Bodhisattva. Thus it is said. The diligence of reverence is to do it with joy, delight, and speed. As it is said: Thus, in order to complete the work, just as an elephant scorched by the midday sun enters a lake, so should one engage in that work. Thus it is said. The unwavering diligence is to be unmoved by all harm from self-discriminating thoughts, afflictions, and suffering. The non-reversing diligence is not to retreat upon seeing harm from others, stubbornness, strife, and the dregs of views, etc., as it appears in the Sutra of Noble Vajra Banner. The diligence without arrogance is not to think highly of oneself because of having initiated diligence. Now, the third, the diligence of working for the benefit of sentient beings, is to strive in the eleven things, such as being a friend to those without help. Having explained the diligence of application of these, the diligence of not being content is to strive without being satisfied with virtue until enlightenment is attained. Thus it is also said: If one is not satisfied with desires, which are like honey on a razor's edge, how much less will one be satisfied with the ripening, blissful, and peaceful merit? Thus it is said. Increasing diligence is to increase it with wisdom, prajna, and dedication, as explained above. Purifying diligence is to be seized by emptiness and compassion, as shown above. The fruit of diligence should be known as twofold: ultimate and temporary. Among these, the ultimate is to attain unsurpassed enlightenment. Thus, in the Bodhisattva Grounds, it says: A Bodhisattva should perfect the perfection of diligence, and manifestly awaken to perfect enlightenment in unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Manifestly awakening to enlightenment will occur, manifestly awakening to enlightenment. Thus it is said. The temporary fruit is that while abiding in samsara, one also obtains the supreme happiness of existence. Thus, in the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: Through diligence, one obtains the desired enjoyment of existence. Thus it is said.

From the "Mother Dharma, the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel, the Ornament of Precious Liberation," the fifteenth chapter on the Perfection of Diligence. A summary of the Perfection of Meditation: Considering the two aspects of faults and merits, the essence and the divisions, the characteristics of each difference, the methods of increasing and purifying, and the seven aspects of the result, the Perfection of Meditation is summarized. That's all. First, to explain the first aspect: If one possesses generosity and so on, but does not possess meditation, then one will be influenced by distraction, and one's mind will be wounded by the greatness of afflictions. As it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "A person whose mind is distracted dwells in the jaws of afflictions." Also, if one does not possess meditation, clairvoyance will not arise; if clairvoyance does not arise, one cannot benefit sentient beings. As it is said in the "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment": "Without accomplishing calm abiding, clairvoyance will not arise; likewise, without the power of clairvoyance, one cannot benefit sentient beings." Also, if one does not possess meditation, wisdom will not arise; if wisdom does not arise, one cannot attain enlightenment. As it is said in the "Friendly Epistle": "Without meditation, there is no wisdom." Conversely, if one possesses meditation, one will abandon attachment to inferior things, clairvoyance will arise, and many doors of samadhi will arise in one's being. As it is said in the "Noble Collection Sutra": "Meditation abandons contempt for the qualities of desire, lineage, clairvoyance, and samadhi are manifestly accomplished." Also, if one possesses meditation, one can generate wisdom through it and destroy all of one's own afflictions. As it is said in the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life": "Knowing that afflictions are completely destroyed by the higher seeing that is fully endowed with calm abiding." Also, if one possesses meditation, one will see the true meaning and generate compassion for sentient beings. As it is said in the "Sutra of the Perfect Collection of Dharma": "Through equanimity of mind, one will see reality as it is. Having seen reality as it is, the Bodhisattva will engage in great compassion for sentient beings." Also, if one possesses meditation, one will be able to place all those to be tamed on the path to enlightenment. As it is said in the "Ornament of the Sutras"
