Whoever generates the supreme Bodhicitta enters the Mahayana. The Bodhisattvabhumi also states: 'As soon as the mind is generated, one enters the unsurpassed Mahayana Bodhi.' Secondly, explaining its meaning: If there is not even the mind that desires to attain Buddhahood, then the bodhisattva's training, which is the three vows, has no meaning of arising or abiding. If there is the mind that desires to attain Buddhahood, then these three vows will arise and abide, so this mind is the basis of training. The Bodhisattvabhumi also states: 'The generation of Bodhicitta is the basis of all the bodhisattva's trainings.' Thirdly, explaining its meaning: The antidote to sin is virtue, and the most excellent among virtues is Bodhicitta. Therefore, if the antidote arises, the opposing side will naturally disappear. As it is said: 'It, like the fire at the end of time, will surely burn all great sins in an instant.' Fourthly, explaining its meaning: The continuum of sentient beings is like the earth, connected with the moisture of love and compassion. If the Bodhicitta, like a root, is established, then the thirty-seven branches of the path to enlightenment will flourish, and the fruit of perfect Buddhahood will ripen, benefiting sentient beings. Therefore, if this Bodhicitta arises, it is as if the root of Buddhahood is established. The Bodhisattvabhumi also states: 'The generation of Bodhicitta is the root of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment.' Fifthly, obtaining immeasurable merit: In the Sutra Requested by Viradatta it is said: 'The merit of Bodhicitta, if it had form, would fill all of space, and it would be even greater than that.' Sixthly, pleasing all the Buddhas: In the Sutra Requested by Viradatta it is said: 'If someone fills Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges with jewels and offers them to the Sugatas, it is better to join one's palms and turn one's mind to Bodhi. This offering is far superior and has no end.' Seventh, all sentient beings

That which is beneficial, as it is said: In the Sutra of the Array of the Sacred Tree, it is said: Like a support that benefits all beings in the world. Eighth, one will quickly realize complete enlightenment, as it is said in the Bodhisattva-bhumi: If that mind arises, it does not abide in the two extremes, and one will quickly realize complete enlightenment. The benefits of generating the mind of entering into practice are ten: In addition to the previous eight, there is the constant arising of self-benefit and the manifold arising of the benefit of others. Among these, the first is that after generating the mind of entering into practice, it is different from before, and at all times when one is asleep, fainted, or acting carelessly, the power of merit also arises continuously. As it is also said in the Bodhicaryavatara: If that mind is truly taken, from that time onwards, whether asleep or careless, the power of merit, uninterrupted and numerous, will increase greatly like the sky. As it is said. The manifold arising of the benefit of others is: Eliminating the suffering of sentient beings, accomplishing happiness, and cutting off afflictions, as it is also said in the Bodhicaryavatara: For those who are deprived of happiness and possess much suffering, satisfying them with all happiness, and cutting off all suffering, and also eliminating ignorance, where is there a virtue equal to this? Where is there such a friend? Where is there such merit? As it is said. The number is indefinite: From here onwards, all the qualities up to Buddhahood will arise, which are countless. The faults of abandoning the mind of enlightenment are three: Due to faults, one goes to the lower realms, due to faults, one falls away from the benefit of others, and due to faults, one is hindered for a long time from attaining the bhumis. Among these, the first is that if one does not accomplish the vow and abandons the mind of enlightenment, one has deceived sentient beings, and therefore the ripening of its karma will lead to rebirth in the lower realms. As it is also said in the Bodhicaryavatara: If one has made such a vow, but does not accomplish it with action, having deceived all those sentient beings, what will become of my destination? As it is said. The fault of not being able to benefit others is: As it is said: In this way, one will fall away from the work of benefiting all sentient beings.
