The crow puts on boots, wears a big star as a hat, rides the buttocks as a horse, and whips with a rope. The flesh of the buttocks is given to the dog, and the flesh of the face is given to the people, accumulating it for the son. Furthermore, our own parents and teachers, and all those who are kind, cherish that thing that comes from nowhere and is unknown. They look with loving eyes, warm with gentle warmth, play with it in the mouths of ten fingers, and call with sweet voices. Happy! Ah! Baby! Need it? Lullu! Is Mommy's happy fruit? And so on. The kindness of giving life is: we were not initially strong people like we are now, with sound hands and feet, capable of doing anything difficult. But we were like worms, weak, useless, and muddled. The mother did not abandon it, but served it, held it in her arms, saved it from fire and water, pulled it from the cliff, eliminated harm, and made offerings. Fearing death and sickness, she performed divination, fortune-telling, sacrifices, recitations, rituals, and so on, doing countless and unimaginable things to save the child's life. The kindness of teaching the world is: we were not initially all-knowing, knowledgeable, and capable people. For those who knew nothing but calling out like relatives and waving their hands and feet, she taught them to eat, taught them to dress, taught them to walk, taught them to speak, saying "Papa" and "Mama," and taught them various skills such as crafts, making the unequal equal and the dissimilar similar. Moreover, this is not only done now, but has been done countless times since beginningless samsara. Just as it is said in the Sutra of Beginningless Samsara: If one being were to make all the land, stones, plants, and forests of the world into mustard seeds, and a second being were to count them, there would be a time when they would be exhausted. But it is impossible to count the number of times a being has not been my mother. So it is said in the sutra. It is also said in the Garland of Knowledge: The boundary of the mother is vast.

Even a small amount of shrub twigs, even if counted as beads, will not make the earth stand up. So it is said. If it is not done like that, the kindness will be kept as before in sequence. Therefore, the kindness of that mother is immeasurable. So, cherish her dearly and cultivate the pure mind that wishes her benefit and happiness. Moreover, all sentient beings have been our mothers. The number of times they have been mothers is the same as before, they are all kind. Then, how vast is the extent of sentient beings? Sentient beings pervade as far as the end of space. As it is said in the Sutra of the Maturation Path of the Good Conduct, 'However far the end of space reaches, the extent of all sentient beings is the same.' So it is said. Therefore, cultivate the pure mind that wishes to benefit and bring happiness to sentient beings who pervade space. If that arises, it is true loving-kindness. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras, 'Bodhisattvas towards sentient beings, like doing for an only child, from the depths of their feet, great loving-kindness arises, wishing to constantly benefit them.' So it is said. If the force of loving-kindness causes tears to flow from the eyes or the hairs of the body to stand on end, that is great loving-kindness. When such loving-kindness arises equally towards all sentient beings, that is immeasurable loving-kindness. The measure of accomplishment is when there is no thought of wanting one's own happiness, but only wanting the happiness of sentient beings, then loving-kindness is accomplished. The benefits of cultivating it are immeasurable. As it is said in the Sutra of the Moon Lamp, 'However many immeasurable and various offerings, in hundreds of millions of pure lands, making offerings to the most excellent beings, even having done that, it cannot match the number of loving-kindness.' So it is said. Even the merit of cultivating loving-kindness for a moment is immeasurable. As it is said in the Precious Garland, 'The food of three hundred Brahmins, giving three times a day, cannot match the merit of a moment of loving-kindness.' So it is said. Even before attaining enlightenment, eight benefits are obtained. As it is said in the Precious Garland, 'Gods and humans will become friendly, and they will also protect, the mind will be happy, and there will be much happiness, there will be no harm from poison and weapons, benefits will be obtained without effort, and one will be reborn in the world of Brahma. Even if one does not become liberated, there are eight qualities of the Dharma of loving-kindness.'
