At the end of [the practice], all realizations will effortlessly arise. These are the special preliminaries, the sequence of preliminaries. These sessions of conducive circumstances are combined into one session, making nine sessions in total. Fourth, the main practice, which is divided into śamatha and vipaśyanā. First, there are two aspects: body posture and mind posture. First, the body posture: legs in vajra posture, hands in samahita mudra four fingers below the navel. Spine straight. Arms extended like eagle wings. Throat slightly bent. Tongue touching the palate or natural. Eyes half-open, gazing at the space four fingers in front of the tip of the nose. Arranging in this way, not being tense, cramped, or uncomfortable, but arranging in a comfortable and relaxed manner, gradually causes the downward-moving wind to be controlled, the water wind to enter the central channel, the fire-equalizing and earth wind to enter the central channel, the pervasive and fire wind to enter the central channel, and the life-sustaining and wind of wind to enter the central channel. There is a need for this. Moreover, arranging the body posture in this way causes the channels and winds to become workable, and countless qualities arise. Just arranging the body posture alone causes realization to naturally ignite, so arrange the body posture in that way. First, exhale a little air, then naturally and effortlessly, clarify all the preliminaries roughly, and then leave yourself in a comfortable state. Among these, the mind posture is divided into two types: common and individual. The first is: do not cut off or think about the past, do not welcome the future, do not think, "I will do this, I will do that." For the present, without any acceptance or rejection, abide in the natural, ordinary awareness that arises spontaneously, without any acceptance, rejection, hope, fear, fabrication, but abide in the natural, relaxed, and free state. Ten sessions in total. The second, individual, is: if you cannot abide in the mind, place a piece of wood or a small stone in front of you and focus your mind on it. Or, display or visualize in your mind the body of the Tathagata adorned with marks and signs. If drowsiness, dullness, or haziness occur, focus on the crown of the head or the urna between the eyebrows. If agitation or scattering occur, focus on the navel or the wheel and lotus seat at the base of the feet. If there is no drowsiness or agitation, focus on the entire body or the śrīvatsa on the heart. Recalling and counting the auspicious marks one by one from top to bottom and from bottom to top with the mind, making them clear.

There is no need to settle on everything in order. If the way and state of settling are not determined, do not settle the mind anywhere, let the mind settle naturally, let it go if it wants to go, do not force it, just relax. Wanting to meditate, not wanting to meditate, wanting the mind to settle, worrying about not settling, etc., completely cut off all signs of conceptual thoughts. If the object moves, becomes numb, or the eyes become blurred, stop, look at the space directly in front of the eyebrows, and let the mind relax naturally. Do not put any pressure on this meditation, just keep it from being distracted, and keep awareness and clarity without being contaminated by dullness. Alternate meditation and rest, short periods and many times, repeatedly settle in a clear and awake state, repeatedly interrupt, and it is very important to practice without getting bored. Eleven sessions in total. After that, grasp the mind, and gradually grasp all the sounds heard by the ears, the smells smelled by the nose, the tastes tasted by the tongue, the touches felt by the body, etc., settle the mind on the state of clear sounds and strong smells, etc., without being distracted, grasp with the iron hook of mindfulness, and maintain the natural state, without making any judgments such as good or bad, big or small, settle the mind on any state, interrupt in a clear and bright state, rest, and do not let distractions enter.
