Moreover, due to decline, one must practice diligently with perseverance. It's not about blocking discursive thoughts, but rather generating genuine realization from within oneself through the power of meditation. Therefore, relax awareness and rest. Also, observe, that is, observe the nature of the abiding mind. And at these times, maintain the way of abiding in a clear, lucid, and radiant manner, like a clear sky. Sometimes, diligently extract awareness and strive to observe the nature. This is the initial method of instruction. The guru should also tame and question the disciple according to their capacity. To some who can be taught, entice and repeatedly question them, so they understand the terms understanding, experience, realization, and feeling without confusing them. The disciple should also strive in that way, observing the nature of the mind. This is one. Furthermore, cut off the root, that is, cut off the source of movement or discursive thoughts, and then give instructions. Maintain the body posture, way of looking, and conduct as before. In the state of possessing the three qualities of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality, relax and loosen up. Then, from there, suddenly let a sudden discursive thought arise, or deliberately generate an appropriate discursive thought, and observe the nature of the awareness that arises. Observe when it arises, and observe where it arises from. Observe the color, shape, place of origin, place of existence, and place of cessation. Does it exist externally or within the body? If internally, in the center of the heart, etc., in which part of the body, internally or externally, does it exist and arise in what form? Investigate. Does that mind exist as an object or as a non-object? Are there arising and ceasing, color, shape, etc.? If there are, what are they like? If there aren't, is there a sound of "there isn't," or is there nothing that can be considered "this," and there is no arising or ceasing, etc., but there are things that can be known? When observing thoughts, are all thoughts empty, free from elaboration, and without arising or ceasing, or when observing that thought, does it vanish without a trace? Or when a thought arises, does it appear without any grasping? If it appears without grasping, then at that time, do you think there is a part without grasping, or not? Let the thought move or let it be moved, and then observe its nature without obstruction or grasping. Is there happiness or unhappiness in it? Observe the nature of happiness and unhappiness separately. Generate various thoughts and observe them. Generate or provoke strong thoughts such as afflictions, the five poisons, and also observe them. The thought itself and the

Also, from within, thoroughly cut off any doubts about what differences there are between past thoughts or ideas. If you can clearly and nakedly see the essence of thoughts, look at the clarity and nakedness of seeing while abiding previously, and whether there is any difference between that and the clarity and nakedness of seeing now, on top of the present thought. If you are not sure, pull the thought back and place it on the clear awareness to observe. It is not observing the thought, but observing the essence of the thought itself when it suddenly arises, uncorrupted by any initial ordinary consciousness. Therefore, observe well, etc. In short, coordinate with the way things appear. The two, master and student, should discern together, cutting off the root and foundation, and be diligent in introducing the view and the way of looking. Furthermore, in order to introduce the inseparability of appearance and mind, look at appearances. The way of looking and the posture of the body are the same as before. Focus your eyes and attention single-pointedly on a definite object, such as a pillar, a vase, a statue, Mount Meru, or any suitable form in space. Then release your awareness and rest for a while. Similarly, observe the nature of sound in the same way, whether it is pleasant or unpleasant, loud or soft, different, existent or nonexistent, what you or others say, etc. Likewise, in the realm of the nose, observe the smells that appear, whether they are good or bad; on the tongue, observe the tastes, whether they are delicious or not; on the body, observe the tactile sensations, whether they are comfortable or painful, hot or cold, sickness, pain, stinging, etc., whatever arises. At that time, is the appearance ceasing, or are you and the appearance separate, or does the appearance arise in the mind, or does the mind grasp it as "this is an appearance," or are appearance and mind inseparable, existing emptily in a desolate emptiness? In this way, alternate between observing the thoughts of the observer and any of the five objects. See if there is any difference between the two, and see what the difference is between the object appearance and the subject thought. When looking at the object, if the object is clearly present there, is there a feeling of "it is like that"? Or is there no feeling of "it is like that," and the object has not disappeared, but exists openly, while the mind that observes is also in a state of non-grasping and non-clarity, and the two seem to be without difference. It seems that there is nothing to think that "it is like that, without difference." If there is a feeling that "the object is clearly present there," then see what that feeling of "it is like that" is like in itself. Similarly, the two, body and mind, are also one and different.
