It is the instruction of the ground. Because it is free from extremes such as permanence, annihilation, superimposition, and denigration, it is Madhyamaka. Because it is beyond speech, thought, and expression, it is the instruction of the Prajñāpāramitā. Saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, the dharmas, are perfected in the mind, therefore it is Dzogchen. All good and bad thoughts, do not attend to them in the mind, Mahāmudrā. Because suffering is pacified, it is the pacifier. All afflictions and conceptual thoughts, transform them into the path, therefore it is Secret Mantra. Mind and conceptual thought, the three kāyas, are primordially co-emergent, because they are united into one through instruction, it is called co-emergent union. Even obstacles from demons and spirits are praised, so it is said. Thus it is said. End of the sixty-sixth Dharma discourse. Fourth, the difference between Mahāmudrā and Co-emergent Union is: Dagpo Rinpoche, in answering a question to Phagmo Drupa, said: Do Mahāmudrā and Co-emergent Union have a difference or not? He replied: Mahāmudrā is all the dharmas of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa, primordially spontaneously accomplished, the nature of reality is like space, the non-dual wisdom of all times. Co-emergent Union is that whatever thought arises is united with the four kāyas, therefore it is not considered to be at all times, because there is interruption. Thus it is said. Zhang Rinpoche said: Such a nature, cannot be seen by words and examination. Inferior ones strive on the gradual path, middling ones strive on the means of channels and winds, superior ones meditate on Co-emergent Union and Mahāmudrā. Thus it is said. The wisdom of Co-emergent Union, observes conceptual thoughts and transforms them into dharmakāya, the instruction of Mahāmudrā is, relax conceptual thoughts and transform them into dharmakāya. Thus and so forth, it is said limitlessly. In short, Mahāmudrā is shown through the four meanings, and all the meanings expressed therein are contained, and that is also as said in the instructions of Götsangpa, Götsangpa said: What is called Mahāmudrā, is four things: nature, definition, classification, and difference. The nature is that it pervades everything, everything is integrated into its own nature, it is beyond the realm of thought and speech. Definition: Hand is emptiness, Seal is liberation from the dharmas of saṃsāra, Great is the realization of union. Thus it is said. There are three classifications, the Mahāmudrā that pervades all grounds.
