Homage. The Mahamudra of practicing the path, the Mahamudra of spontaneously accomplished fruition. The three characteristics of Mahamudra are: essence not established in any way, appearance not ceasing in any way, that itself abiding inseparably. There are also five distinctions: the distinction of realization arising from within, without relying on scriptures and reasoning for the view; the distinction of liberation in its own place, without relying on mind-holding for meditation; the distinction of the unbroken continuity of uncontaminated vows, without relying on guarding and restraining for vows; the distinction of liberation in its own place of the knot of acceptance and rejection, without relying on antidotes for conduct; the distinction of spontaneously accomplished abiding in its own nature, without relying on time and signs for fruition. As it is said. This is the seventh Dharma discourse. Fifth, how the result arises from practice: similar to the way the result manifests above, the experience of inseparable calm abiding and insight arises in the mindstream, and the realization of one-pointedness, freedom from elaboration, one taste, no meditation, etc., becomes manifest, and the stages of grounds and paths are traversed either all at once or gradually, thereby manifesting the supreme state of perfect Buddhahood. Here, in order to generate certainty and for the sake of great blessings, without being concerned about the multitude of words, the words of the Kagyu forefathers are quoted directly and straightforwardly. Practitioners, if they can remember the words, then the blessings are great and they can be retained; if they cannot remember the words, they should clarify their meaning and meditate on them in their mindstream as much as possible, so that the meaning will be accomplished. The single path traversed by all Buddhas of the three times, the oral instruction of one knowing all liberation, transmitted from ear to ear, the transmission not interrupted by other words, the essence of the hearts of all realized lamas, practiced by all Kagyu forefathers and arising in their mindstreams, by which all beings are placed in maturation and liberation, the pinnacle of all vehicles, the essence of all instructions, the supreme essence of the Mahamudra co-emergent union guidance text, which is known by merely looking at it and the experience of realization arises in the mindstream, is called "Essence of the Ocean of Definitive Meaning, Light Rays of Activity, Feast of Desires for Liberation, Source of Wish-Fulfilling Jewels, Supreme Bestowal of Liberation."

This text is free from self-made impurities, starting from the previous masters such as Gampopa and Dükhyen, and collecting the oral transmissions of the qualified Kagyu masters up to the glorious Lama Könchok Yönten, with a mind of benefiting others, I have made this Dharma offering. However, if there are any self-made or omissions, I ask the lamas and the assembly of dakinis for forgiveness. May all the roots of virtue cause the co-emergent wisdom of Mahamudra to arise without hindrance in the minds of all sentient beings. Said: I have little learning and lack practice, and I am not sure when I will die, not even for the blink of an eye. The distractions of this life are taken away by the clamor of falsehood, and all experiences become mere wishful thinking. Therefore, it is difficult to speak from my own experience, but because the precious Kagyu lineage has power, through the power of faith and devotion that arises in it, I have written a little of the essence of definitive meaning. Now, the Buddha's teachings are also nearing the end of the five hundred years, and most of the ordained are distracted by the affairs of householders, and the three practices of hearing, thinking, and meditating are left behind. There is no need to mention using day and night for virtue. To subdue enemies and protect relatives, empty boasting, risking the collapse of the sky for livelihood, taking vows for status, and pretending to practice and study for wealth. Covered by self-praise and disparagement of others, arrogance and stinginess. Examining one's own mind, even if it is full of afflictions, one thinks that one is an accomplished one, a wise and virtuous one, unmatched by anyone. Relying on oneself, one commits many sins, treating the words of the lamas as wind in the ears, claiming to have realized and understood, but pretending to teach and guide others, many instances of deceiving oneself are seen. Therefore, I have written this in this way, for the sake of distancing myself from self-proclaimed wise men and elderly sentient beings, truthfully according to the Kagyu teachings, speaking in an honest way without concealment. However, if there are any omissions, errors, or contradictions, I ask the lamas and the assembly of dakinis for forgiveness. May all the virtue cause all sentient beings pervading the sky to see the face of their own nature, the supreme reality. In order to fulfill the hopes of those who desire liberation, I will clearly express the essence of the profound meaning and the nectar of good speech, according to what arises in my own mind.
