Thus it is said. Therefore, whatever arises does not go beyond emptiness, so the bondage of cyclic existence, which should be abandoned, is liberated from the very beginning. Because what should be abandoned has no inherent nature, there is no chain of bondage. The self (Tibetan: ང་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अहं, Sanskrit Romanization: ahaṃ, Chinese literal meaning: I) and self-nature have no inherent nature, so there is no self to be bound. Because there is no object to be bound and no binder, one is liberated from the dharmas of cyclic existence. On the surface of whatever appears, the nature of appearance is not established in any way, so it is emptiness. The resonance of emptiness appears clearly and unceasingly. On the surface of whatever arises, it is not fabricated by anyone, and it is spontaneously present in union, so there is nothing else above it, so it is great. It is like a reflection in a mirror. Although the form of the reflection appears in the mirror, it has no inherent nature, so it is emptiness. Although it has no inherent nature, its form appears clearly. Thus it is said in the Great Seal Point Tantra: Listen, goddess, Great Seal! The Great Seal is a great secret! Unspeakable, inexhaustible, unborn! All that has form is separate from form. The formless is the supreme lord of form. It is free from coarse and fine, etc. It is of immeasurable nature. And: Co-emergent union: It is not considered co-emergent like two things coming together. Rather, it is like one thing, one essence, possessing three qualities, like co-emergence. For example, gold has one essence, but it has three qualities: its color is yellow, it is heavy, and it does not deteriorate when melted. Apart from its yellowness, there is no other heaviness or immutability when melted. Apart from heaviness, there are no other two qualities. If these three qualities are not gold, then that's another matter. As long as it is gold, it is co-emergent, possessing yellowness, heaviness, and immutability when melted. Similarly, the other two qualities also possess these three qualities. Similarly, for the ground, the mind of enlightenment, the essence is awareness, the nature is emptiness, and the characteristic is clarity. These three are co-emergent. Apart from its emptiness, there is no other awareness or clarity. Apart from clarity, there is no other emptiness or awareness. Apart from awareness, there is no other clarity or emptiness. The essence is the one mind, but in the reverse aspect, emptiness, awareness, and clarity arise as three. Although three arise, these three are inseparably co-emergent, that is, emptiness.

Arising as awareness and clarity. Awareness itself is emptiness, and clarity arises. Clarity itself is emptiness, and awareness arises, therefore, these three, clarity, awareness, and emptiness, each fully arises with all three, hence it is called co-emergent. As it is said in the Two Truths: Whatever arises as co-emergent, its nature is called co-emergent. All forms are unified as one. Thus. Applying this to the continuum is called co-emergent union. As such, from the Buddha above to the worm in the thatch below, it exists without good or bad, large or small. When one recognizes it, it is called co-emergent wisdom. When one does not recognize it, it is called the alaya consciousness. For the two, recognizing and not recognizing, they are called co-emergent wisdom and co-emergent ignorance. Which of these two comes first? There is no before or after in time. There is no good or bad in essence, because these two are of the same essence. Thus. Gyalwa Yang Gonpa said: Regarding this, the meaning of the term Mahamudra is: Mahamudra is derived from the Sanskrit (梵文天城体:महामुद्रा,梵文罗马拟音:mahāmudrā,汉语字面意思:great seal) term, meaning that which cannot be transcended, cannot be divided, or cannot be emptied. That is, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana, from their own places, without losing their original state or changing their color, at all times, past, present, and future, do not transcend the co-emergent wisdom, therefore it is a seal. Because there is nothing higher or separate from it, it is great. That is, if one focuses the consciousness of a moment in one direction, when a thought suddenly arises, without making any negation or affirmation of that thought, that thought itself resides in the actual state of co-emergent wisdom. Whether one realizes it or not, one cannot transcend it, therefore it is a seal. Because one cannot find wisdom or the intention of the Buddha apart from that thought, it is great. Thus. These are explanations of the meaning of the terms Mahamudra and co-emergent union. Moreover, however one names it, Mahamudra, Great Madhyamaka, Great Perfection, etc., there is no contradiction. Phagdru said: Conceptions and afflictions, all are tamed by taming. Conceptions are the Dharmakaya, the place where definite knowledge arises. Because it cuts from superimpositions, this is the guru's instruc
