If someone says that what is seen is the mind's appearance of the one who sees, and it does not exist separately from that, then now you understand that all grasping and the grasped should be determined as one's own mind. Recognize all illusions and delusions such as good, bad, and neutral, and place them in a state of being without foundation or root. This is the fifty-third Dharma talk, the forty-second key point. Having meditated in this way, all objects, body, and mind are merely the self-appearance of this single mind. It transcends the scope of mental activity such as one and different, is inexpressible and inconceivable, and is manifestly realized to be free from all extremes of elaboration and all that is made by the mind. When all the characteristics of what is to be meditated on and the meditator are liberated in their own place, it is said that the co-emergent nature of mind, the Dharmakaya's own face, is manifestly seen or manifestly enlightened. If it is not like that, no matter how one speaks of one and different, existence and non-existence, things and non-things, mind and matter, knowing and not knowing, is and is not, emptiness and non-emptiness, object and subject, permanent and impermanent, grasping and the grasped, birth and cessation, going and coming, etc., in reality, nothing is established other than the self-appearance of mind itself. If one grasps as established what is not established, then one has turned away from the meaning of the true nature. One and different are also relative, and since different is not established, it cannot be established as one either. However, if one merely thinks of appearance, awareness, and emptiness as being inseparable and of one taste, there is no contradiction in verbally saying "one," just as fire and heat, or the moon's reflection in water, are inseparable from water. Therefore, when guiding beginners and logicians, it is necessary to ask questions to examine whether they have determined appearance as mind, such as whether they have determined one or many. When cultivating one's own practice, one should not engage in such extensive investigations, but rather relax and rest naturally, without modification, on whatever appearance arises. In this way, one will realize that appearance is mind, and extraordinary experiences of realization will arise. Otherwise, it is inappropriate here to establish emptiness through reasoning about one and many, and to meditate on emptiness made by the mind, and it will also lead to the fault of emptiness becoming an object of knowledge. Therefore, in this case, do not engage in any meditation made by the mind, but relax and let go in a state free from desire and hope, and cultivate in a state where whatever arises is ungrasped and unmodified.

It is very important. As it is said, the accomplished Orgyenpa said, "Mind and appearance exist like fire and heat." And, "All these appearances are the self-radiance of the mind or the light of the mind." Also, Dagpo Rinpoche said, "Appearance and mind are one. There is no appearance separate from the mind. All these appearances are the light of the mind or the nature of the mind, so when the mind is realized, the appearance will naturally dissolve." Mind-nature and Dharma-nature are one, because the light of mind-nature is Dharma-nature, so when mind-nature is realized, Dharma-nature will naturally dissolve, for example, it is impossible for the light to disappear after the sun has set, because the light of the sun will radiate outwards, and radiating and retracting are inevitable. Similarly, by realizing only the mind-nature, the Dharma-nature will also be realized naturally. When the mind is pure, the appearance will also be pure naturally. Therefore, it is enough to leave the appearance and mind-nature as they are and meditate on the essence of the mind. During meditation, put aside Dharma and Dharma-nature, and meditate on the essence of the mind like an old woman pointing the way. Alternatively, dissolve all the outer and inner phenomena into the mind-nature, and then meditate on the essence, these two are similar. If you meditate on the basis of Dharma-nature without finding the essence, you will not attain Buddhahood even if you meditate. Wind and mind are one. Because of the movement of the wind, various thoughts of the mind arise, and it exists in such a way that it cannot be said to be the same or different, and when the mind is realized, it will be purified in itself. The non-dual wisdom and emptiness are co-emergent. Just as the co-emergent mind-nature is the Dharmakaya, and the co-emergent appearance is the light of the Dharmakaya, the two are inseparable like sandalwood and the fragrance of sandalwood. Drok Gon Shang said, "Saying that appearance is inseparable from the mind is just a convenient way of saying that all appearances are regarded as the mind. The mind-nature is influenced by conditions, and like bubbles in water, various colors appear, so appearance arises from conditions. All memories and thoughts, like clouds in the sky, have no origin, dwelling place, or destination, so they are rootless. All experiences of happiness, suffering, and equanimity are like experiencing happiness and suffering in a dream.
