That state of being naturally and clearly present, free from roots, is the introduction to the Dharmakaya. Just as waves are not different from water, various thoughts arise from the state of primordial clarity and emptiness, yet they are not two entities. As stated in the "Two Truths": "This is called Samsara, this is called Nirvana. Having abandoned Samsara, elsewhere, Nirvana cannot be attained." As it is said, recognize the mind in thoughts, and strive until the state of rootlessness and natural dissolution is achieved. Fiftieth teaching. Furthermore, observe whether this mind is going, staying, working, or how it is abiding. Have them bring the way it abides and examine it for a few days. Then, when asked, if they say that the mind does nothing and just stays, ask: "From yesterday when you left here until now, haven't you had any thoughts of eating, dressing, sleeping, walking, etc.? Are you staying here now without even the thought of having to go somewhere or thinking that I am a Lama?" If they say it is not like that, ask: "Then how can you say you are staying, which contradicts what you said earlier? Look again carefully." Furthermore, if someone like an old meditator says that the mind is staying in its natural, unaltered state, or if they are uttering empty words saying they are staying in a state free from elaboration, say: "Please bring the ordinary consciousness that has not been transformed by philosophical systems or altered by antidotes since yesterday. I am not asking you about meditation. Go and consult the commentaries and the Abhidharma-kosha." Furthermore, if someone like a Geshe, without having realized the meaning in their own experience, quotes many scriptures and tantras and speaks in accordance with them, say: "There is no need to bring dry scriptural words from yesterday. Here, we are asking you to observe the mind that has not been transformed by philosophical systems. Scriptural quotes are of no use. Go and consult the commentaries and the Abhidharma-kosha." Furthermore, ask again and again. If they say that the ordinary mind, unaltered by antidotes and untransformed by philosophical systems, does not want to stay even for a moment, that thoughts are scattered, that it does not do nine thoughts but does nine thoughts, and keeps doing them, say: "Now, observe a little more carefully. The very fact that the mind itself does not want to stay is it." Furthermore, ask: "Are these many appearances, such as attachment and aversion, liking and disliking, the distinctions between enemies and friends, and the outer and inner worlds, created by someone else, or are they created by the mind, or are they the mind itself?"

Let them look and have it checked. When asked again, they say that these containers and contents were made by Phya, Isvara, and the ancestors of the world. If I ask where Phya and the others exist, when they were made, where the materials were sought, and how they were made, they say they do not know. Then, what does it mean to say that Phya and the others made them? Do not lie in the Dharma. You must speak with certainty. You must have heard false stories from heretics and the world, do not take them lightly, investigate further. When asked again, all creators are in the mind. When the mind is still, there is nothing; when the mind moves, everything happens. If they say. I asked, are the mind that does and the action that is done one and the same, or are they different? If they say they are different, I ask, when thinking of a pillar, is the thought of the pillar the mind, and at the same time, is there a separate pillar that exists apart from it? If they say there are not two, then that is understanding. Therefore, through skillful means, recognize the deluded mind. These introductions are to make you realize that when you say your mind is doing all sorts of things, that is when you have recognized conceptual thought. Because the deluded mind arises and ceases in an instant, due to the power of the habitual tendencies of the deluded mind, the illusory appearances of the six consciousnesses appear as various colors, shapes, forms, sounds, smells, tastes, tactile sensations, and phenomena, and arise and cease. Because I have made you understand and introduced this, all phenomena arise and cease in an instant. This means that there are no phenomena apart from the mind, and if the deluded mind is impermanent, then the illusory appearances must also be impermanent. So understand it that way. Again, you say that all creators are in the mind, and no one else creates; when the mind is still, there is nothing; when the mind moves, everything happens. That is it. In that, there is no distinction between the mind that does and the action that is done. Just as you say that thinking of a pillar is the mind, and there is no pillar apart from that, so all appearances are the mind. As it says in the Vajra Tent Tantra: Apart from the precious mind, there is no Buddha, and no sentient being. The places and meanings of consciousness, There is nothing external at all.
