Furthermore, it is necessary to sever the root through the eleven doors of attention. These eleven are: the attention of thoroughly searching, individual examination, detailed investigation, quiescence, insight, union, clarity, non-conceptualization, equanimity, continuousness, and the attention of non-distraction. The first is: whether the mind exists or not, what is its nature, thus urgently searching in one's own mind stream. The second is: specifically examining color and shape, etc., as well as the place of origin, the three courses of conduct, the basis, etc. The third is: sequentially searching for the searcher and the one who searches, etc., until the ultimate end. The fourth is: by searching, examining, and investigating in this way, one first establishes that one's own mind is without inherent existence, and similarly establishes that all phenomena are merely names, thereby the mind dwells closely on the profound meaning. The fifth is: searching for the nature of that dwelling in the same way as before, thereby fully realizing one's own nature. The sixth is: these are not different and cannot be separated. The seventh is: if there is sinking and dullness, then one should attend to the cause of excitement and uplift the mind. The eighth is: if there is scattering and excitement, then one should strive to adopt the means of pacification. The ninth is: when free from sinking and excitement, one should abide in the nature of examining one's own state. The tenth is: one should never be separated from such yoga. The eleventh is: one should apply the mind closely to that, not allowing distraction to find an opportunity. If one is attached only to understanding and general meaning, then the meaning will not be accomplished, and it must arise properly in the mind stream. In actual practice and in all session intervals, one should not be separated from examining one's own mind. One should turn inward and diligently, without distraction, examine the state of the mind, how it moves, and how it abides. The forty-third Dharma talk, the thirty-sixth object of focus. Third, establishing and introducing the state of clarity and emptiness means that the way wisdom manifests differs according to the individual's mental capacity. For those who realize suddenly, due to great devotion to the guru, deep accumulation of merit from the past, and minor obscurations, merely praying to the guru, or hearing the Dharma, or through various symbolic circumstances, or merely meditating briefly, they will unknowingly generate the realization of any of the upper three yogas, and possess the complete enhancement experience of the lower practices.

One way it arises is that, although calm abiding has not arisen, due to the greatness or smallness of previous training and immediate intelligence, the experience and realization of insight arises. Sometimes calm abiding arises. Sometimes neither arises. Another way is to practice gradually, but the strength is weak. The true and authentic practice tradition is that first calm abiding, then insight, then the experience and realization of union arise in sequence. Although there are many of these methods, the scope is also stable, so the introduction is also done in this way. At the time of the introduction, display blessed supports, offerings, tormas, and good feast gathering implements. All teachers and students pray to the lama and the Three Jewels. Do not let oath-breakers, sinners, or defiled people come near. Prevent distraction and obstacles from arising, and after having the students practice the essential points of the body and preliminaries as above, let the mind relax in its own way. Look nakedly at the nature of the relaxed mind. Maintain continuous mindfulness without distraction. Whatever thoughts arise, do not deliberately accept or reject them, do not make any fabrications, and look at their own nature. This is like what Saraha said: "Water and fire, rest in their own clarity. Going and coming are natural, neither accepting nor rejecting." In short, the so-called ordinary consciousness, or the present consciousness, is this clear, empty, naked state that is free from grasping, and this is the introduction. It is not to be sought from elsewhere and practiced, nor is it to be made to be practiced by someone who does not understand, so for this momentary awareness, sometimes tighten and sometimes relax, and always maintain continuous mindfulness without distraction. Relax in equipoise, tighten in post-meditation, and if you practice by letting whatever arises be self-liberated without grasping, the wisdom of insight will arise. As Gyalwa Yang Gonpa said: "The mind, free from grasping, is the realm of emptiness. The awareness of clarity and emptiness is free from thought. Rest in your own nature, and look at your own nature. You will see the face of insight itself." Say this, and have them practice in this way. This is the forty-fourth Dharma session, the thirty-seventh point. In this case, ask what the mind is like. Because they will say unnecessary empty words, ask while restraining them. For what he says, suspect whether it is just empty talk or just happiness, and if experience arises, guide it.
