If it is said that it appears without grasping, then ask if the thought of "there is no identifier" will arise at that time? If they say it does, then it is within the realm of understanding. If it is said that without the thought of "it is like this," without importance, without clinging, without identification, appearance and liberation occur simultaneously, then superior seeing has arisen in conceptual thought. Introduce that as the Dharmakaya of the union of clarity and emptiness. Furthermore, when the objects of the five sense faculties, such as forms, are allowed to be viewed, if it is said that the object is clearly present there, then ask if there is a clinging to the idea that "it is clearly present there" or not? If they say there is, then let them observe that thought of "thinking like that." If there is no thought of "thinking like that," and the object has not ceased, but is empty, then the mind that is looking there is also relaxed without clinging or importance. If it is said that these two seem to be without difference, and there is no thought of "thinking like that," then superior seeing has arisen in appearance. Introduce that as the Dharmakaya of the union of appearance and emptiness. These are methods for seeking the wisdom of superior seeing on the basis of calm abiding, which is to observe the nature of meditation, which is also called self-awareness. Seeing the nature of the mind through observation is self-awareness. The great bliss of the wisdom of self-awareness itself is Mahamudra. Moreover, if you do not observe the nature of meditation, you will not see the nature of the mind. If you do not see it, you will not know the nature of the wisdom of self-awareness. If you do not know it, you will not be able to realize the great bliss of the wisdom of superior seeing, so it is very important to observe the mind. Also, how his own view has arisen, do not just understand it, but be sure to bring it into the continuum and have him meditate with certainty. Ask him if the mind feels happy and clear? Or clear and bright? Or relaxed, with a certainty from deep within that cannot be expressed in words? If he says that when he looks at it, there seems to be nothing to identify, then he has recognized it. If he says that he cannot come to one-pointedness, then it is within the realm of understanding, so you need an experience that is not understanding, but that fits into the continuum. Do not do too many other explanations, but meditate as I have taught and come, and let him meditate until the experience and realization arise as before, and after it arises, introduce it. When introducing, it is not necessary to teach all of these sentences with snake-shaped symbols, but according to the way it appears, the nature is the same as any of the above points.

This is a sign of introduction and recognition like a key. Forty-sixth teaching session. Again, regarding how to apply the introduction, there are two ways: introducing through movement and introducing through appearance. First, introducing through movement: It is good to meditate on the previous focuses of the body posture of calm abiding and insight, either until you don't forget them or for a short time. First, release awareness into its own state. Then, from that state, stare at your own essence. Then, let it transform and meditate on the appearance of something like the Jowo of Lhasa or the Great Buddha of Tsurphu until it appears clearly. Again, see what difference there is between the mind that moves and the mind that stays. See what difference there is between the mind that moves and the mind that looks at it. By looking in this way, movement goes into self-liberation. And also, see if the Great Buddha that appears in the mind's field and the mind that appears as it are the same. If they are the same, did the mind become the Great Buddha, or did the Great Buddha become the mind? If they are not the same, is the Great Buddha that is seen the real Great Buddha, or is something else seen as the Great Buddha? Likewise, look as before at whether the extent to which the eye sees forms and the eye consciousness that sees them are the same or different. Likewise, examine and look in the same way at the sounds heard by the ear, the smells smelled by the nose, the tastes tasted by the tongue, and the sensations felt by the body. By looking in this way, you will realize that you are free from all the elaborations of sameness and difference, and knowing that everything is a magical display of the mind, if movement goes into self-liberation, then it is recognition, so rest in equanimity in that state. Forty-seventh teaching session, thirty-eighth focus. Again, clearly establish a joy in your mind. Think until immeasurable joy arises. Again, clearly establish a displeasure and think until a clear displeasure arises in your heart, and see what difference there is in the nature of these two. See what difference there is between the mind that becomes joyful, the mind that becomes displeased, and the mind that initially stays. Again, expand the mind as much as possible, expanding it in all four directions and eight intermediate directions at once, and see what difference there is between that and the mind that stayed before. By looking in this way, since it is said that two thoughts do not occur at once, it is not possible to expand into many at once. And, realize that everything is a play of the changing states of this one mind itself.
