"Renunciation." And the Hevajra Tantra says, "Attachment binds the world, but desire itself becomes liberation." And Gyalwa Yang Gonpa said, "Do not hold conceptual thoughts as something to be abandoned, and do not deliberately cultivate non-conceptualization. Establish a boundary of mindfulness, and meditation will be accomplished in the state of stillness." This is the meaning of what was said. That is to say, it is important to continue with short sessions, and tightening and loosening should also be alternated. Tightening means focusing intently on one object of focus, not allowing even a moment of distraction, even keeping the eyes, ears, and other senses upright, and the body taut like a fish. Meditating as if sewing well, like identifying a thief in a crowd, or counting horses with a telescope, like walking on a single-log bridge, or like filling a container with butter, is tightening. Loosening is like casting away the effort of meditation far away. In reality, casting away means letting go of everything, without any fabrication, letting go without self, just maintaining awareness without distraction. The session can also be slightly extended, relaxing the body and mind, like feeling relieved after finishing work, or letting go after being free from illness, or like a stack of hay with a broken rope, or like a baby who has been fed, or like the sun and moon free from clouds, or like a lamp free from wind, is loosening. The faults of sinking and agitation in these two states should also be eliminated separately. The thirty-seventh Dharma session, the thirty-second object of focus. These points from "ka" to "na" do not necessarily need to be taught verbatim in order, but for those who have had similar experiences, realizations, and understandings, it is necessary to show the method of eliminating obstacles and enhancing experience. As mentioned above, by asking questions, according to his foundation and the way signs appear, show the appropriate content separately. If it is someone who does not practice but only talks about it, it is okay not to talk about it. If it is necessary to emphasize the explanation, it can only be explained in the manner of scripture, roughly explaining one aspect, do not explain in detail, saying that this kind of situation will occur from the beginning, because this will make those with a Dharma background become arrogant, and may even hinder others from guiding them later, so explain after knowing the capacity and timing.

Also, some people, when meditating, desire to have good experiences, so they create a special clarity and emptiness with their discriminating mind, and then meditate. This is not called a rainbow of meditation. If you have preconceived notions, you will not be able to understand the true meaning of meditation. If someone considers himself a teacher or someone who understands the Dharma, if others' words do not conform to his mind, he will be unhappy and then engage in transformative meditation. This obstacle is very great, just like not climbing up the stairs from the bottom, you cannot reach the top of the stairs. To eliminate this obstacle, abandon your desires, do not meditate deliberately, do not create with your mind, and maintain a natural and relaxed state. You should say that your actions will only make you worse and not better. Also, some people who have preconceived notions think that the mind is the Buddha, so they do nothing and let their discriminating mind run wild, thinking that this is the Buddha, and then expect to gain enlightenment and experience like rain. This is even worse than before. For this situation, generate armor and perseverance, and meditate without distraction for even a moment. Do not speak high-sounding Dharma, but focus on actual practice. Also, even if a good meditation experience arises, if it is not continued, it is like the meditation has no owner. For this situation, extend the time of meditation and be more diligent, this is meditation. Also, sometimes you feel very happy, but then it fades and you feel frustrated, so you imitate the previous experience to meditate, but because you cannot get that experience, you feel very painful. If you are too attached, it will lead to physical discomfort. If the attachment is small, you will be associated with some happy Dharma. For this situation, when things are not good, do not crave good experiences, but focus on the bad experiences themselves, because bad experiences are easier to control and master than good experiences, so this is a skill. Also, when you first settle down, you will feel uncomfortable, as if you need to adjust your posture. If you adjust your posture or fall into the flow of discriminating thoughts, it will get worse and worse, so for this situation, do not adjust the uncomfortable feeling, but focus on it, just like untying a knot, you will naturally feel relaxed and comfortable. Also, when discriminating thoughts flow, you do not notice it, and you think that you are not distracted. After a while, you realize that you have been distracted just now, and you feel that you have not done well, so you recall the previous state and want to pull it back, and then pretend to be meditating. For this situation, the person who wants to pull back will not come back, and the person who wants to pull back is also a discriminating thought, and even if you realize this, it is an illusion, so this is called the shackles of meditation.
