It is the cause of abiding. If those three abidings arise, one will recognize oneself through introduction, find the clue, and cut off the superimposition. If introduced without arising, one will be mistaken in practice due to greed. The first abiding cannot be moved even slightly. With one guidance, it is impossible for the final one not to arise as the intermediate abiding. If those two have arisen, and the final third one has not arisen, then one must practice the key instructions for stabilizing what has been grasped. These experiences should also first be asked how they arose, and then, in comparison to the answers, eliminate errors. If the method of enhancement is not shown, and one says from the beginning that it will be like this, even if it has not arisen, there is a risk of making false claims and guessing at understanding, so gradually compare understanding and experience to teach this Dharma discourse. Until the signs and ways of appearance of the three abidings have not arisen, do not teach this Dharma discourse, but rather have them diligently practice the above objects of focus. This will answer all questions about eliminating obstacles and enhancing. Thirty-second Dharma discourse. Second, in order to stabilize what has been grasped, there are nine methods of binding the mind and abiding the mind. The first is binding upwards, binding downwards, and alternating yoga. The first is: Visualize in the center of a four-petaled white lotus in one's heart a white bindu like mercury, white and shimmering, oily and round, about the size of a bean, and then, while inhaling and exhaling, visualize that bindu going out from the Brahma aperture and abiding in the high expanse of the sky, and control the body posture and gaze upwards. Elevate the mind, Exert effort in awareness, and meditate for a long time. This is called the Samadhi of the Crest Jewel of the Great Brahma, and is the supreme practice of Samadhi for holding the mind in Akanishta. Thirty-third Dharma discourse, twenty-ninth object of focus. The second is: Visualize in the heart a four-petaled black lotus, with the mouth facing downwards, and place in the center a black bindu the size of a bean or whatever is appropriate, coiled like a thread, coming out from the secret place, and gradually and slowly abiding at the end of many yojanas below, in a heavy manner, and fix the mind one-pointedly. Gather the lips, and bring the body posture and gaze downwards in every way. This is called the Samadhi of Underground Conduct. The third is oneself

Depending on the capacity of the individual, if the mind is high, lower it; if it is low, raise it. By alternately meditating on these two objects, single-pointed samadhi will arise and all faults will be eliminated. Thirty-fourth teaching session, thirtieth object. Second, what are the nine methods of abiding the mind? That is, the nine methods of abiding the mind spoken by the Bhagavan in the Ratnakuta Sutra are: placing, continuous placing, establishing, near establishing, taming, pacifying, near pacifying, making one-pointed, and equanimously placing. The first of these is: focusing the mind single-pointedly on any object and abiding there. The second is: continuously maintaining that state and abiding there for a long time. The third is: if conceptual thoughts arise, immediately grasp them with mindfulness and abide equanimously. The fourth is: integrating the equanimously abiding mind into the previous state of abiding and abiding equanimously. The fifth is: clearly remembering the qualities of the abiding mind, generating joy, and abiding in that state. The sixth is: determining what causes lead to distraction and abandoning attachment to them, abiding in that state. The seventh is: whether it is the cause of distraction such as greed, or the result of distraction such as unpleasant feelings, recognize the nature of each and allow them to naturally dissolve. The eighth is: through such practice, the mind naturally focuses on the object and abides without the need for strenuous effort. The ninth is: ultimately reaching a state where there is no distraction, whether in samadhi or not. These are the nine methods of abiding the mind. Thirty-fifth teaching session, thirty-first object. In all methods of mind training, place a sentinel of mindfulness to observe whether there are faults such as dullness or agitation. If there are none, maintain the state; if there are, eliminate the faults. These faults generally arise because the mind does not abide, practice does not arise, impermanence and death are not remembered, the eight worldly concerns are not balanced, genuine faith is not generated, one is lazy and indolent, and self-grasping has not been abandoned. The antidote to this is to generate renunciation, forcibly cut the ties of this life, dispel attachment to samsara, and balance the eight worldly concerns.
