Having placed it in that place, without allowing it to scatter to other places, focus single-pointedly on that object of focus, without loosening or being distracted. Without thinking about its fineness, thickness, length, shortness, color, etc., let it be relaxed in its own place, without distraction, maintaining unbroken mindfulness. Since that object of focus is merely a reminder or memorandum to prevent distraction, simply direct an undistracted gaze upon that object of focus and rest in a relaxed manner; it is not meditating on the object of focus itself. When the session is over, or if the object of focus moves, shakes, or becomes invisible, or if something like blurred vision occurs, then completely cut off the continuation and, without looking at that object of focus, look at the space directly in front of the brow and let the mind relax in its natural state. Do not apply any meditative guidance to this, simply maintain non-distraction and, without being tainted by dullness or drowsiness, rest the awareness in a clear and lucid state. As Tilopa said: A mind with གཏད་སོ་མེད་ན། (Tibetan) ཕྱག་རྒྱ་ཆེན་པོ་ཡིན། (Tibetan) mind without guidance mudrā mahā-mudrā 大手印 དེ་ལ་གོམས་ཤིང་འདྲིས་ན། (Tibetan) བླ་མེད་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཐོབ། (Tibetan) if you become accustomed and familiar with it uttamā bodhi prāpta 获得无上菩提 is the Great Seal. If you become accustomed to it and familiar with it, you will attain unsurpassed enlightenment. This is the meaning of what he said. The twenty-fourth Dharma session, the twenty-first object of focus. Furthermore, in order to make the mind abide, if you hope that the mind will abide, be clear, be happy, or if you are too tense because you are worried about the proliferation of thoughts, this will cause the mind not to abide, so it is important not to have any expectations or worries, but to rest in a relaxed manner. As Kyemé Zhang said: Meditating on the Great Seal cannot be realized through artificiality, aim, desire, and effort; if there is desire and effort, it will not grow. And, if the mind is not fabricated, it will be clear; if the water is not turbid, it will be clear. And, the mind that is bound by a rope, if loosened, there is no doubt that it will be liberated. Therefore, abandon all efforts of body and mind, and do not deliberately do anything, but abide in a state of non-fabrication, naturalness, relaxation, freedom, without contraction or expansion, without an object of focus, without clinging, naturally, as you please, without desire, without effort, and without thinking about any experience. And, meditating on the mind, the Great Seal, has no object of focus anywhere. Without desire, let the mind relax naturally and gently let go. If you know how to relax in this way, then it is clear and without thoughts, like the nature of pure space.

Like a waxing moon. Do not regard length as a virtue, do not regard shortness as a fault, but take it up and meditate for a moment. In this way, when you know the nature of awareness, conceptual thoughts will arise as clarity, and there is no doubt that they will appear continuously and clearly. In this way, one will attain the Buddha's intention without turning it upside down. So it is said. Jetsun Götsangpa said: The meaning of Mahamudra, if summarized, there is nothing more important than this. First, pray to the lama, then dissolve the lama into yourself, mix the lama's mind and your own mind like water into water, and in that state, let the mind rest naturally. Do not expect the results of meditation, and do not fear the lack of results. Whatever state the mind is in, let it rest in that state. Do not meditate on emptiness, and do not cling to things, but let it rest. Without aiming, let it rest comfortably and clearly. Without aiming, let it rest completely. Do not gather the mind inward, but expand it and let it rest. Do not interfere with the mind's activities. In general, do not cling to anything, but let it rest in that state. So it is said. Dagspo Rinpoche said: When looking at one's own awareness, do not regard the arising of peaceful and blissful samadhi as a virtue; do not regard the non-arising as a fault, but let awareness rest without distraction. When there is no distraction, conceptual thoughts will not arise at all. When they arise, look at them, and then the conceptual thoughts will not arise in the first place, will not remain in the middle, and will not cease in the end, but will rest separated from things, self-nature, and all attachments. So it is said. Jetsun Tilopa said: Relax and rest in the uncreated, natural state. If you loosen the bonds, there is no doubt that you will be liberated. So it is said. Cut off the root of your own mind, and let awareness rest naked. Let the water of defilements of thoughts become clear. Do not affirm or deny appearances, but let them rest in their own place. If there is no acceptance or rejection, then phenomena and existence are liberated in Mahamudra. The alaya is unborn, so there are no habitual obscurations. Do not be arrogant or calculating, but let it rest in the essence of unborn. Let phenomena, self-appearances, and the dharmas of the mind all be exhausted. So it is said. Götsangpa said: Again, when conceptual thoughts arise, hold them tightly with mindfulness, and let them rest on their own. There is no doubt that they will be liberated in their own place. So it is said. The Siddha Orgyenpa said: Resting naturally in an uncreated state is like a Brahmin spinning thread, relax and rest. Like a reed...
