...and so on. May all sentient beings have happiness and the causes of happiness! Etc., meditate on the four immeasurables. Finally, the refuge field, including the throne, dissolves into light and merges into oneself, thinking that one's own body, speech, and mind are inseparable from the body, speech, and mind of the refuge field, and release the mind into its natural state without fabrication. Abide in a clear and transparent state, without clinging to anything and without being distracted by anything. If conceptual thoughts arise, then recite: By this merit, may I quickly attain the state of the great seal, and may I establish every single being without exception on that ground. Dedicate this root of virtue and seal it with dedication, and then engage in daily activities. This is the eighth Dharma session and contemplation. In general, there are two types of bodhicitta: Hinayana bodhicitta and Mahayana bodhicitta. The former is to generate bodhicitta for the sake of attaining peace and happiness for oneself, which is a small offering, because the sutras say: "The Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are permanent obstacles to attaining bodhi." and "Due to the lack of means and wisdom, one will fall into the Shravaka path." Therefore, only the bodhi of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot attain ultimate bodhi. Therefore, here one must strive to cultivate Mahayana bodhicitta. And Mahayana bodhicitta can also be divided from the perspective of its nature, having nature, definition, cause, classification, boundaries, and so on. First, from the perspective of nature, it can be divided into Mahayana conventional bodhicitta and ultimate bodhicitta. The *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra* says: "Bodhicitta also has two aspects, namely, ultimate bodhicitta and conventional bodhicitta." The definition is: the wisdom that aims at perfect enlightenment for the benefit of others is the definition of Mahayana conventional bodhicitta. The *Abhisamayalankara* says: "The generation of bodhicitta is for the sake of others, desiring perfect enlightenment." There are many ways to describe the causes, but in general, they are faith in the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, compassion for sentient beings, and being embraced by a virtuous spiritual friend. The sutras say: "Its root is considered to be compassion, constantly thinking of benefiting sentient beings." And the *Ratnakuta Sutra* says: "Having faith in the Buddha and the Dharma of the Buddha, and the conduct of the Bodhisattvas..."

Having faith in... If faith arises in unsurpassed Bodhi, then the minds of great beings will arise. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Collection, it is said: The Buddhas' teachings should rely on virtuous friends. The victorious ones who possess all the supreme qualities speak thus. Thus it is said. In terms of classification, there are twenty-two types of mind generation, from the mind generation like the earth to the mind generation like the clouds. As stated in the Ornament of Sutras: That is, earth, gold, moon, fire, and so on, up to twenty-two types. Thus it is said. Alternatively, there are four types of mind generation: acting with aspiration, pure intention, fruition, and abandoning obscurations. As stated in the Ornament of Sutras: Mind generation on the grounds, aspiration, purity, and fruition are considered different, likewise, abandoning obscurations. Thus it is said. Their boundaries are: Among the mind generations of earth, etc., the first three are included in the ground of the first practitioner. After that, one is included in the path of joining. Then, ten are included in the ten grounds. After that, five are included in the path of distinction of the ten grounds. The last three are included in the Buddha ground. The latter four, aspiration, etc., are included in the first practitioner, the seven impure grounds, the three pure grounds, and the Buddha ground. Furthermore, there are three types of mind generation: like a king, like a shepherd, and like a ferryman. There are also two types: aspiration and engagement. As stated in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: The mind of enlightenment, in brief, should be known as twofold: the mind of aspiring for enlightenment and the mind of engaging in enlightenment. Thus it is said. The difference between the two is like wanting to go to complete enlightenment and actually going. As stated in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: Just as the difference between wanting to go and actually going is known, so should the wise gradually know the difference between these two. Thus it is said. Alternatively, aspiration is making a vow focusing on the result, and engagement is making a vow focusing on the cause. The object of focus is focusing on the benefit of enlightenment and sentient beings. The first is focusing on seeking the wisdom of the Great Vehicle, as stated in the Ornament of Sutras: Thus, focusing on seeking that wisdom. Thus it is said. Focusing on sentient beings is focusing on sentient beings as vast as the sky, that is, their suffering.
