In the Sutra proclaimed by the renowned 'Without Reliance': 'Wisdom not grasped by means is bondage; wisdom grasped by means is liberation. Means not grasped by wisdom is bondage; means grasped by wisdom is liberation.' Thirdly, 'Samsara and Nirvana' refers to the inferior result to be obtained. The result of mere means without wisdom does not transcend samsara, and the result of mere wisdom without means does not transcend the one-sidedness of Nirvana. 'Attaining the fruit of two meanings free from extremes' means that from the two extremes of samsara and Nirvana, through the power of practicing the union of the two accumulations of paths mentioned above, one does not fall into the extreme of samsara, the Dharmakaya, which is the perfection of self-benefit, and one does not fall into the extreme of Nirvana, the Rupakaya, which is the perfection of other-benefit, thus attaining the unerring fruit of the union of the two bodies. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: 'Self-benefit, other-benefit, the ultimate body, and the conventional body that depends on it.' Fourthly, the meaning of 'errors and mistakes' and so on. Like this, if one falls into any of the two extremes mentioned in the base, path, and result, it becomes an error and a mistake. Therefore, in order to abandon all errors and mistakes here, the extremes of permanence and annihilation are eliminated from the view of the base. By eliminating these, the practice of the path is free from the extremes of exaggeration and denigration. By being free from these, the result is naturally liberated from the two extremes of samsara and Nirvana. Therefore, the unerring path free from errors and mistakes is one that possesses such a nature of the base, path, and result. Fourthly, there are two aspirations for how to practice this path without error: briefly summarizing the meaning and the aspiration to put the meaning of meditation into practice. The first is: 'May the basis of purification be the union of clarity and emptiness of mind itself, the purifier be the great mudra vajra yoga, the object of purification be the adventitious stains of delusion, and the result of purification be the realization of the stainless Dharmakaya.' That is to say, it is most important to understand that for the path that possesses the characteristics of the unerring path mentioned earlier, when practicing the yoga of the great mudra during the path stage, what is the basis of purification, what yoga purifies, what stains are purified, and what is the result obtained from purification, these four aspects.

Therefore, these are expressed in sequence with their respective verses, and finally combined with words of aspiration. Among them, the meaning of the first verse is: to identify the basis for purifying all the stains that are obstacles to achieving liberation as the naturally pure mind, and to determine its characteristic as the union of clarity and emptiness. First, the reason why the pure mind is said to be the basis of purification is that, as stated in the Ratnagotravibhāga: "Earth depends on water, water on wind, wind on space. Space does not depend on wind, water, or earth. Similarly, the aggregates, elements, and sense bases depend on karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions do not depend on proper attention. Proper attention depends on the purity of mind. The nature of mind, all dharmas, does not depend on anything." Here it is said that the basis of all samsara and nirvana, the purity of mind, is the tathāgatagarbha or dhātu. It is only the basis of purification, not the object to be purified, because in its own nature, not even a particle of dharma that needs to be purified exists. As stated in the Dharmadhātustava: "The element that has become the seed is considered the basis of all dharmas. After gradually being purified, one will attain Buddhahood." And "Emptiness is the teaching of the Buddha, whatever the Buddhas have said, all of that can eliminate afflictions, but it does not harm that element." It is like that. At this time, some wise people may have doubts like this: Why does the word "mind" have the meaning of accumulation, so it is inappropriate to call the unconditioned tathāgatagarbha by that name. Moreover, in the Abhidharma and other scriptures, the ālaya-vijñāna, which is the basis of all seeds, is also called "mind," which contradicts the above statement. But there is no problem with this, because saying it like that refers to the impure mind, which divides the mind into pure and impure. And, because it possesses the sixty-four qualities that abide in the base in a non-dual way, it is capable of producing all white dharmas, so it is not contradictory to the meaning of accumulation. As stated in the Prajñāpāramitā: "The mind has no mind, the nature of mind is luminosity." And the quote from the Ratnagotravibhāga mentioned above, and what was said by the teacher Nāgārjuna: "Such a luminous mind, desire and...
