The disturber is mind. The mind together with consciousness constantly plants habits. Thus it is said. Consciousness arises from mind, mind arises from the Alaya consciousness, and all phenomena arise from the Alaya consciousness, moving like waves. Thus it is said. Therefore, from the uninterrupted flow of seeds, the twelve links of dependent origination of samsara that arise from it will also not be interrupted, namely, the ignorance mentioned above, and the craving for feeling, and the pursuit of objects of attachment as craving increases, which is grasping. These three kinds of afflictions accomplish the karma of action and existence. From this arise name and form, the six sense bases, feeling, birth, old age, and death, which are summarized as the aggregates of suffering in seven aspects. Again, from this arise the three afflictions, etc., in sequence, thus circling in samsara. Regarding this, the teacher Nagarjuna said: From the three, two arise, from the two, seven arise, and from the seven, three also arise, this is the wheel of existence. Thus it is said. The first eight and nine are afflictions, two and ten are karma, and the remaining seven are suffering. Thus it is said. Third, it is taught that one must recognize the flaws of delusion. If one does not know the key to delusion, one will not see delusion as delusion, and without recognizing this, one cannot abandon it. Therefore, the aspiration is made to show the importance of recognizing the key. Second, the implied meaning is that the gross phenomena of samsara are shown to be appearances of mind, and from this one can also understand that the subtle phenomena of nirvana are also merely appearances of mind. Because the gross appearances of reality, which are formed by being overly familiar with the habits of the Alaya consciousness, seem to be very contradictory to the true nature of mind, it is difficult to ascertain them as mind. If one can ascertain this, then the pure phenomena are in accordance with the true nature of mind, so there is no difficulty in realizing them there. Therefore, it shows that the pure phenomena also do not go beyond the nature of pure mind. Just as when the mind itself has defilements, it is established as three: mind, intellect, and consciousness, so too, when it is free from defilements, it is also established as the three kayas. Therefore, when a Bodhisattva is on the path, the defilements to be purified gradually become thinner.

Furthermore, as the qualities abiding in the pure mind become clearer, they appear as qualities of the path to enlightenment. When all defilements are purified, all the fundamental qualities will appear. The way this happens should be understood as explained in the Uttaratantra Shastra. Now, the teacher Chandrakirti said, "When all the dry firewood of knowable things has been burned and extinguished, that peace is the Dharmakaya of the Victors. At that time, there is no birth and no cessation. That cessation of mind is what they manifest with the body." Since it is said that the mind ceases at the time of attaining enlightenment, how should this be understood? Such a statement means that the mind indicated by the three—mind, intellect, and consciousness—is abandoned. Here, the pure mind refers to the great bliss of the Dharmadhatu, which is free from the three—arising, ceasing, and abiding. The wisdom of omniscience is also not different from the Dharmadhatu, and therefore it is far beyond the nature of the impure mind. Because the pure dharmas do not independently arise from the pure mind, the appearances of the Nirmanakaya and Sambhogakaya occur in accordance with the gradual purification of the minds of those to be trained, either slightly or mostly. Thus, the way to ascertain all the dharmas included in samsara and nirvana, which are shown by both direct and indirect means, as one's own mind, comes from the Mahayana sutras, tantras, and their commentaries. As the Vajra Tent Tantra says, "Apart from the precious mind, there are no Buddhas or sentient beings. The objects and meanings of consciousness, there is not even a little external object." Also, that same tantra says, "Because it is pure like space, the nature of mind is also the pure supreme bliss. The nature of objects and faculties is not external to the mind, but the appearances of forms and so on are only appearances of the nature of mind." Also, the Secret Cemetery Tantra says, "Apart from the mind, there is no Buddha, and apart from the mind, there is no other dharma. Even the Buddha has not seen it, has not spoken of it, and will not speak of it. Therefore, the secret of the mind of all the Buddhas is the supreme secret." Also, the Dashabhumika Sutra says, "O sons of the Victorious Ones, these three realms are only mind." Also, the Lankavatara Sutra says, "Disturbed by habitual tendencies."
