Because distraction is a hindrance, one only has a slight recognition of one's own nature, without binding oneself. Because the distractions of discursive thoughts are more than before, one becomes agitated and unwilling to look at the mind. Sometimes there is no distraction, and one abides peacefully, feeling very happy. Sometimes, while abiding in that way, one becomes drowsy. Sometimes one experiences difficulty breathing. Dreams also occur naturally many times. Sometimes, in the midst of abiding, a discursive thought arises. As soon as it arises, one abides together with it, and it seems that one can pull back the arising discursive thought and abide with it, and so on. Various kinds of experiences arise, which are said to be a sign that one understands meditation, so one should not abandon it. If one cultivates it, one will generate one of the superior, middling, or inferior abidings mentioned in the scriptures. Furthermore, if one trains with an object of focus, although there are many ways to train, it is particularly beneficial to visualize Shakyamuni Buddha in front of oneself and focus one's mind, and to count one's breaths. It is said that if one generates ultimate calm abiding, one will generate all the contaminated clairvoyance and miraculous powers, but there are also differences in the quality of one's lineage and faculties. Nowadays, there are not many people who can meditate that much. Even if one can, it is a time when it is difficult to accomplish common siddhis. Even if one can accomplish them, it should only happen incidentally, and one should not pursue them. If clairvoyance and other things happen suddenly, one should abandon them without hesitation. If one deliberately pursues them, it is a cause for demonic obstacles to arise. Similarly, fame and power, worldly fortune, and so on, are also said to arise mostly from this. If one's virtuous activities decrease because of this, it is said to be the blessing of demons. At this time, the mind's clear abiding and the movement of discursive thoughts are held as separate and distinct. One only observes, thinking, "It is moving, it is abiding," but one does not know the true observation of one's own nature. This is called knowing abiding and movement. After that, one does not regard discursive thoughts and awareness as separate and distinct. Just as waves and water have the same taste, one rests in the state of self-knowing, self-illuminating awareness. If one still does not understand, one abides. Instead of following after thoughts or engaging in any analysis, one simply rests in the nature of the one who thinks, "It is abiding, it is moving," and abides openly on the basis of that abiding. In this way, the environment of non-distraction satisfies the mind like a celestial child. Clarity and emptiness are open and clear. Whatever discursive thought arises, it is like snow falling on a stone.

It's like finishing quickly like lightning. Thinking, why don't these people practice like this? Confidence arises in oneself, and weariness arises towards others. Even when living alone on a mountain, one feels that one has attained everything. It seems like one is indifferent to the eight worldly concerns. Sometimes many chaotic and confused thoughts arise, and one cannot find anything to look at or anything to let go of. Sometimes there appears to be this vague, unclear state of what it is, which seems to be a difference in experience. Then, regarding the initial arising place of the mind, the final vanishing place, the intermediate dwelling place, whether the shapes and colors are one or many, etc., repeatedly and thoroughly investigate. As a result, it is discovered that there is no place of arising. Here, there is no so-called cessation. Now, here, there is no place of dwelling. Shapes, colors, etc., cannot be identified. Nakedly seeing the nature of the mind, which is free from all elaboration, the self-illuminating that is nowhere to be found, this is called insight (Lhaktong). But this is just the feeling of experience, not actually seeing the nature of awareness. At this time, one feels that a definite understanding arises that the seer and the seen are non-dual, and then one abides in a state of non-fabrication, which is what the guru meant. Sometimes one thinks like this. Sometimes, without noticing for a long time, suddenly, when thoughts and awareness arise, one feels that everything becomes clear and bright. This is like having no goal of meditation, and eventually naturally abiding, and sometimes one feels that meditation has regressed compared to before. Even when conceptual thoughts arise, it doesn't require effort like before, and it seems like one can naturally let go, etc., and various different situations arise. High and low, long and short, etc., do not occur continuously, and there is no progress for the time being, so sometimes one feels weary. Sometimes one thinks that there seems to be no higher view or meditation than this. One wants to say profound views to others. In dreams, one also dreams of past accomplished beings and yidam deities. Sometimes one dreams of inappropriate people or evil people, and thus hope and fear arise. Sometimes distraction and practice are mixed together, and one thinks that I don't seem to be harmed by distraction, but if one is distracted for a long time, the five poisons and the eight worldly concerns will arise even more strongly than before, so that one cannot catch up with mindfulness for a while. Even if one catches up, it is difficult to control, so unless one obtains very stable stability, one must abandon distraction and practice with one-pointedness, which is very important. Then, due to the blessings of devotion, or like awakening past karma, awareness
