The land is also barren. Especially for the guide of Mahamudra, like a bowl with engraved patterns, or like a Sāccha, if there is no lama with realization, the ultimate realization cannot be generated in the disciple's mindstream. Therefore, those who have received the transmission from the Peerless Dagpo, Je Dusum Khyenpa, Zhang Tsalpa, Götsangpa, etc., should take the one in whom they have the greatest faith as their root guru and pray to him, and blessings will descend, as they have promised. In particular, it is prophesied that the Peerless Dagpo Gyalwa will spread Mahamudra, so it is very important for anyone who has faith in Mahamudra to rely on Jetsun Gampopa, and to meditate on one's own root guru as inseparable from him. If you receive the lineage of blessings from a father-son-like guru and take him as your root guru, that alone is sufficient and no further examination is necessary. There is no need to rely on other Kagyu lineages either, because all the great beings of the past have transmitted the wisdom of realization from one to another through oral transmission, and are therefore able to bless the mindstreams of others. Even if you have not heard the Dharma from a well-known guru like a father and son, you can still take another guru with experience and realization as your root guru, and blessings will descend. Whether that guru is actually an ordinary person or an emanation of a Buddha or Bodhisattva, if you can visualize him as a Buddha and pray to him, then all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and yidam deities will enter the body, speech, and mind of the Vajra Master and benefit beings. As it says in the "Oral Instructions of Manjushri": "In the future, the Vajra Holder, any sentient being who despises him, despises me, therefore I will always abandon him." And: "I dwell in his body, he receives offerings from other practitioners, he is pleased and purifies his own mindstream, and all karmic obscurations are purified." Therefore, if you please your own guru, you please all the Buddhas. If you accumulate negative karma towards him, it is no different from accumulating negative karma towards all the Buddhas. If you make offerings to him, you will receive the merit of making offerings to all the Buddhas and purify your own obscurations. From the immeasurable Tripitaka, it is known that supreme accomplishment depends entirely on the guru, and that the benefits of having faith and respect for him, and making offerings, etc., are immeasurable.
