Oh! Secondly, it is the mind that is always determined to renounce from home to homelessness because of faults, and to speak truthful words that fulfill vows. The third dedication is to keep in mind the desire to attain the body of a Buddha, and to rejoice if it is attained. This is considered to be the tenth complete purification taught in the scriptures. Secondly, it is to be known that by realizing and meditating on these ten, each with its own nature unattainable, like the sky or an illusion, one can completely purify the faults of the first ground and completely perfect the qualities. Then, is it those who have already attained the ground who practice, or those who have not attained it? Among the two explanations, it is considered that those who have not attained it practice, because it is said that the qualities of the ten grounds, such as the Bodhi tree, are practiced on the ninth ground. The commentary says that as long as the complete purification is not complete, it is that ground, and after completion, it is another ground. The meaning is that in the stage of application, one practices in order to attain what has not been attained, and in the actual stage, because it belongs to that complete purification, there is no contradiction. The complete purification of the second ground has two aspects: the method of purification and the wisdom of the way of purification. The first is that through the eight complete purifications, the second ground can be attained. What are the eight? The eight are condensed into three: the basis of discipline, special intention, and special effort. The first is to mainly practice the three disciplines. The second is to increase with loving-kindness, to know and be grateful for having done a little benefit, to endure having done great harm by not looking at the faults of sentient beings, to be very happy for the sake of others in order to make the mind stream suitable, and the root of all this is to have great compassion for sentient beings. The third is, in order to generate respect, to respectfully offer seats and so on to the supreme ones, to listen to the Dharma of the Lama with respect and accomplish the meaning because of the weight of qualities, and the eighth counted from the discipline, to diligently give and observe the discipline and so on in order to complete the accumulation of merit. The second is that these natures are unattainable, and so on. The complete purification of the third ground is also divided into two as before. The first is that through the five complete purifications, the third ground can be attained. What are the five? The five are summarized into four:

The times are: cultivating the wisdom of self-nature, cultivating the field, cultivating the difficult practices, and cultivating the mind of the supreme vehicle. The first is: never being satisfied with hearing the holy Dharma, and giving Dharma without desire for material gain. The second is: cultivating all the faults of one's own Buddha's vessel and essence field. The third is: never being weary of benefiting others, even when faced with the harms of samsara, such as repaying kindness with harm. The fourth is: being ashamed of not doing unwholesome deeds in relation to oneself, and being conscientious about not doing them in relation to others, and having no pride in these qualities. Thus, there are five aspects. After this attainment, the thought that all sentient beings should be liberated from samsara arises naturally. For that, unobstructed wisdom of means is needed. Wisdom is needed as the cause for abandoning obscurations. For that, samadhi is needed. For that, knowledge of the distinctions of samadhi is needed. For that, one needs to have heard the scriptures, so hearing is understood to be supreme. At that time, even for the sake of a single four-word phrase, one would overcome even the world system becoming a single flame. "Having no pride" means having no attachment. It prevents the understanding of subsequent cognition as being with characteristics. The first three of the complete purifications here are the cultivation of the learning of subsequent samadhi, and the fourth is the meaning of the excellence of the perfection of patience. The second is: combine these two lines. The complete purification of the fourth ground has two parts. The first is: "Through ten complete purifications, the fourth ground will be attained." Combine it like that. What are the ten? They are condensed into six: mind, conduct, attention, activity, giving, and pure yoga. The first is: dwelling in the forest, which is devoid of attention to one's own benefit, that is, in a solitary place, and having little desire because one does not desire enlightenment for one's own benefit, and being content because one does not seek further gain when one obtains it. The second is: guarding the qualities and thoughts of cultivation with mindfulness and awareness, relying on the tolerance of definite understanding of the Dharma without emptiness, and not abandoning the three trainings that have been taken, even for the sake of one's life. The twelve qualities of cultivation are: three freedoms regarding food, and freedoms regarding clothing.
