Similarly, apply it to other places as well, so that two continents are illuminated and two are in darkness. When the latter half of the southern continent is halfway through its time, the eastern continent's daytime is half in the west, and the western continent's half is in the east. Like that, for a brief moment, three continents are illuminated. The third point is that the second month of summer is the first month of autumn, the month of Khrums (Jyestha). At the end of that month, on the eighth day of the waxing moon, day and night are equal. From the dawn of the ninth day, the night becomes longer and the day begins to shorten. The fourth month of winter is the second month of Hor (Mongol), the first month of spring, the month of Dvo (Phalguna). In the waxing half of that month, on the eighth day, day and night are equal. From the dawn of the ninth day, the night begins to shorten. The day, conversely, begins to lengthen. Therefore, this directly shows the time when it goes from two equal points to long and short, and implicitly indicates the reversal point. If the reversal point were directly indicated, it would contradict the seasons described in the prince's teachings and the root verses of the sutras, and would contradict obvious facts and reality. Some people consider the second month of summer and the fourth month of winter here to be the two smaller months and consider the month of Pleiades (Smin-drug) to be the beginning of the year, but this is contradicted by the previous scriptures and reasoning. How much longer or shorter does it become? The day or night becomes longer by one thang (a unit of time) each day, which is one nine-hundredth of a day. The reason for the length is that when the sun travels from the edge of the southern continent of Jambudvipa, in the sky beyond six yojanas and one-eighteenth of a yojana, the day is short. When it travels directly above the northern continent, the day is long. Similarly, apply this to all situations. Some say that when the sun travels above four and a half yojanas in the south, the day is short, and when it travels above two thousand yojanas in the north, the day is long. In that case, there would be no length or shortness on other continents. Some say that when the sun travels north and south, the propelling winds become faster or slower due to being close to or far from Mount Meru, but not because the southern route is longer. However, this is due to the winds that arise together, not to sudden winds. Therefore, in the vast space, when it is close to the mountains in the north and south, it is obscured, causing the east and west to be short, while the south
