The places for experiencing suffering, from the remaining directional differences, are sixteen, what are they? They are eight types. Those are surrounded on four sides, when the ashes of fire submerge the knees slightly, lifting and placing the feet, flesh and blood are born and destroyed, the rotten corpse, the outer mire submerges around the waist, insects pierce through to the bones with sharp beaks, and a road filled with sharp blades, and so on, a forest of sword leaves, a mountain of sword forests, these three are combined into one because the weapons are similar. The first of these, like before, causes the flesh on the feet to be born and destroyed, the second is: when staying in that shadow, swords fall and cut, and when falling, they are eaten by jackals, the third is: sharp thorn forests, sixteen fingers up and down facing outwards, piercing when climbing and descending, crows with iron beaks gouge out the eyes, the immeasurable river is filled with boiling transforming water, falling into it, on both sides are people holding various weapons guarding and boiling. So, are the hell guardians sentient beings? Or not? The Vaibhashika school thinks they are, but because of the obstruction of karma, they are not burned by fire, and the Vipaka school says they are born in those hells. The Sautrantika school thinks they are the differences produced by the karma of sentient beings, as a cause of harm, and the Cittamatra school thinks they are the appearance of their own minds. The third is: the blister hell and so on, the burst blister hell and so on, the eight cold hells are places different from the hot hells, directly opposite the hot hells. It is said that the first is one krosha beyond the opposite of the Reviving Hell, and the others are located two thousand and two thousand below. Moreover, the first three are named from language, and the five are named from the postures of the body, and all eight are the same in that they have no light from the sun and moon. Suffering (Sanskrit: duḥkha, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: duḥkha, Chinese literal meaning: suffering) is said to be greater than the hot hells. The temporary sentient beings, the places of hell are in uncertain places such as water and mountains. The root place of the pretas is five hundred yojanas below Rajagriha, called the Yellow Pretas City, which is projected by the non-virtue of projection, and completed by the virtue of completion, enjoying the glory like a god, and teaching the Dharma to sentient beings who are going to hell, so he is called the Dharma King, and his entourage is born from both benefit and completion, which are non-virtuous.

Therefore, for food and drink, there are four types of obstacles: external and internal food and drink obstacles, and food and drink themselves becoming obstacles, or it can be said that there are three. In the Sutra on Mindfulness, it is said that there are thirty-six types of pretas (hungry ghosts). It is said that hell is located below the vast city. Scattered pretas also exist in the places of humans and desire realm gods. The Sarvastivadins believe that pretas exist in hell, because the Rakshasa guardians of hell are pretas. Those who dwell among animals are: in the outer ocean, there is only a small amount of strong liquor. The scattered pretas that spread from this are infinite, wandering with humans and gods, existing in water, land, and sky. Third, the explanation of the abodes of the gods is divided into two parts: the actual abode, and incidentally, the characteristics of the beings who dwell there. The first part is divided into two parts: the lower part connected to the ground, and the upper part not connected. The first part is divided into two parts: the abode of the Four Great Kings, and the abode of the Thirty-Three Gods. The first part is divided into two parts: the abode dependent on palaces, and the abode dependent on mountains. The first part is divided into four points: the distance and dimensions between the sun and moon, the way the sun acts in the four continents, the seasonal differences based on this, and the reasons for the waxing and waning of the moon. The first point is: if asked how far the sun and moon are from here? The distance between the sun and moon is level with half of Mount Sumeru and the top of Yugandhara Mountain. In terms of dimensions, the diameter of the moon is fifty yojanas, and the circumference is three times that, which is one hundred and fifty yojanas. That is: water crystal is cool and beneficial to the eyes, ripens crops and brings light. The diameter of the sun is fifty-one yojanas, and the circumference is one hundred and fifty-three yojanas. The reason is fire crystal, the two are opposite, and the two have the same function. In terms of height, the two are the same, both being six and a half yojanas and eighteen parts. Large stars are eighteen yojanas away, medium ones twelve yojanas, and small ones four yojanas, this is the saying in the sutras, but here it is said that small stars are one yojana. Above these stars, there are the palaces of the gods, made of various precious jewels, where new flowers are scattered by the wind and old flowers are collected.
