Chapter. Identifying the limbs as they are established. That is, showing it as a temporary stage. Establishing it through the main limbs. The necessity of establishing it in the three times. First, how are the twelve limbs established in three parts? In the former extreme, there are ignorance and action, and in the latter extreme, there are birth and old age and death, two each. In the middle part, there are the remaining eight limbs. However, it is not certain that all of them are complete, but only sentient beings in the three places of desire, who have a complete life, are complete. Second, what are these such as ignorance? Among them, ignorance is the aggregate of the five skandhas in the stage of practicing afflictions in the previous life, with this life as the center. However, in the commentary, only ignorance is mentioned because it is practiced together, and because they arise by its power, it is the main one, so it is called ignorance, just as it is said that the king has passed away with his entourage. In the Compendium of Learnings, it is said that the two, attachment and hatred, do not pervade as the cause of all actions, but ignorance pervades, so it is said to be the main one. Actions are the aggregate of the five skandhas in the stage of the previous three doors and so on. Consciousness is the mind that depends on the previous two causes, that is, the aggregate of the five skandhas that connect in this afflicted life. In the Compendium of Learnings, it says that it and birth are moment by moment, and the rest are continuous. Name and form are after that connection, the body and mind have existed before, but because the name of the birthplace has not been obtained, depending on obtaining the name, the aggregate of the four names and the soft ones, etc., up to the appearance of the six sense bases, are the five stages. The six sense bases are the time up to when the three, object, power, and consciousness, are assembled and cannot enjoy the object. Contact is the time from then on when one cannot know the cause of pleasure, pain, and equanimity, doing things like touching fire. Feeling is the time from then on when feeling is clear, and one cannot engage in sexual activity. Craving is the stage from then on of those who are particularly attached to enjoyment such as eating a lot and gathering and eating, and sexual activity, that is, before they start searching for those objects. Grasping is knowing that if there are objects of enjoyment, etc., happiness will arise and wanting to obtain them.

Like the five aggregates that arise following desire, focusing on the cause of feeling that arouses the karma of the next existence when running around for pleasure. At the time of such running around, all five aggregates that perform the karma that will produce the fruit of future existence for the sake of happiness, follow it, or are the cause of the future, so it is "existence." That is also to keep the order intact, mostly referring to the craving mentioned there, and the karma of the next life when old age makes it impossible to run around, or it is summarized there. Relying on the three branches of this cause, the five aggregates that connect to the next life are birth. From then on, what is established in this life from name and form to feeling is the old age and death established in the middle. In order to make the disciples weary, (the Buddha said) monks, what is the birth of name and form, that is the birth of old age and death, and so on up to feeling. Third, in general, dependent origination has four types: momentary, continuous, related, and temporary. What was said before is the twelve stages of the five aggregates of the three times, so it is considered temporary, but it itself is also continuous. Saying "ra" is because one is not satisfied with this and shows the views of other schools. The Sutra Master says, is this your own opinion or the meaning of the Sutra? If you say it is the meaning of the Sutra, then it contradicts what is said such as "not knowing the previous limit." Fourth, the Vaibhashika says, although there are five aggregates, the main ones are ignorance and so on, so it is declared to be its branch. For example, in the Sutra of the Elephant Footprint Analogy, it says, "What is the earth element? It is hair and fur, etc." Although it does not directly say earth, just as in the collection of hair and fur there are other things such as smell, it is declared together with the remaining dharmas. The answer is: no. The earth element does not refer to hair and fur, but refers to the absence of earth other than hair and so on. Fifth, the Abhidharma says that all conditioned phenomena are dependent origination, but why does the Sutra only say sentient beings? What is said in the Abhidharma is said from the perspective of characteristics, while what is said in the Sutra is about the previous limit, in the past time, did I exist or not? For the future limit, will I exist or not in the future? In between
