If it is considered that being born as a form body manifests obstruction, then there is no fault. If it is thought that the direct realization of the noble ones might regress, this is the view of the Vaibhashika school, just like an Arhat having the nature of falling away. The Sutra school believes that the abandonment of the uncontaminated does not regress, but the abandonment of the contaminated can regress, as Rong says. The Sutra school and the Mind-Only school believe that there is falling away from meditative absorption itself. The Vaibhashika school believes that arising thought arises from the substance of the entering mind. The Sutra school says that the body with the senses has the seed of mind, and from this arises the arising thought. The Mind-Only school believes that arising thought arises from the seed of mind existing in the Alaya consciousness. The Venerable Dignaga asserts that there is an unclear consciousness, and from this arises the arising thought. The Sutra school and the Mind-Only school believe that there is no form. Fifth, the nature of life is the life of the three realms. Life in the desire realm and form realm is warmth, and in all places it is consciousness, because consciousness depends on life to exist, so it is their basis. The basis of life is also them, because they exist in mutual dependence, so if it is thought that there is no regression, there is a mistake. Like a spear and a house, there is entering and exiting, this is what Dunjom said. The scriptural proof is: This life, with warmth and consciousness, whenever it abandons this body, having abandoned it, then it abides, like a mindless dead person. It is also said that the reason is that the continuum of aggregates exists, so it is established that there is a basis. The Sutra school says: Although life exists as a substance, warmth and consciousness depend on each other, and both also depend on previous karma, thereby designating the time that similar kinds continue to exist as life. The Vaibhashika school says: If this is the case, then all formless beings will only be the result of maturation, so there will be a fault, therefore life is like the Vaibhashika school, or like the Mind-Only school acknowledging the Alaya consciousness. Sixth, divided into two parts: distinctions and eliminating faults. The first part is: The Sutra says that four characteristics arise, namely, the arising of future conditioned phenomena now, and the aging that is easily destroyed in the second moment, and the abiding that causes entry into one moment, and the impermanence that actually destroys. If abiding is not mentioned in the Sutra, it is because it is to make the disciples

Therefore, the abiding that becomes the cause of destruction is not explained. The second part has three points. First point: If it is said that although conditioned phenomena have characteristics, they are not pervasive because they do not possess the self of arising, etc. Answer: For those fundamental characteristics, there are also similar characteristics, namely the arising of arising, and so on, the aging of aging, the abiding of abiding, and the impermanence of impermanence, so there is no non-pervasiveness. Second point: If it is said that for those also there are similar characteristics, therefore each has four, and it will be infinitely faulted. Answer: The former is admitted, but it will not become infinite, because each represents each other, so no other characteristics are needed. How does it represent? The four fundamental characteristics apply to eight dharmas, and the four similar characteristics apply to one dharma of the fundamental characteristics, that is, each applies. The fundamental arising produces the conditioned phenomenon and the other three fundamental characteristics and the four similar characteristics, a total of eight, while the arising of arising only produces the fundamental arising. Similarly, the fundamental aging makes the eight dharmas old, and the similar aging only makes aging one old. The fundamental abiding makes the eight dharmas abide, and the similar abiding only makes abiding one abide. The fundamental impermanence makes the eight dharmas perish, and the similar impermanence only makes impermanence one perish. Therefore, the fundamental arising needs a second producer, but it does not need a third, so it will not become infinite. Apply the same to others. If so, then the conditioned phenomenon that is the nature of non-arising will become not a conditioned phenomenon, because it does not have the characteristic of arising. If it has it, then how can arising be called non-arising? Although it has arising, there is no fault with abiding because there is no function. Third point: Since arising produces the future, the future will all arise at once, is this reasonable? Answer: If there is no collection of causes and conditions for arising now, then arising alone cannot cause the object to be produced now, just as even if there is an eye, if there is no object, then consciousness will not arise. The scriptural proof is: The sutra says, "Conditioned phenomena also appear as arising." The reason is: Names have differences in meaning, therefore they are pervasive. The Sautrantika school believes that the four characteristics of arising, etc., are established in relation to the continuum of conditioned phenomena, and not that each moment has all four.
