If so, does this obtain the three times like meditation? Answer: It needs to be accomplished through effort. Because it is without mind, the first moment only obtains one time, that is, only the present time is obtained, and from the second moment onwards, it is associated with the past time. Because it is without mind, the future time cannot be obtained, just like the vows of individual liberation. Supernormal cognition is not the same as emanation, because supernormal cognition and emanation are obtained through being free from desire and are with mind, while this (referring to cessation meditation) is not like that. Or, both only obtain the present time in the first moment, and from the second moment onwards, they are associated with the past time. The second (cessation meditation) has seven aspects: what is to be negated, attention, ground, nature, transformation of experience, person, and the way of obtaining. First, the so-called "cessation attainment" is also the same as before, it is the cessation of all associated dharmas. So, what is the difference between it and the previous one? Second, this (cessation meditation) is entered into because of being weary of feelings and thoughts, in order to abide in the cessation of feelings and thoughts that is similar to liberation, or in order to abide in happiness in this life, and it is not entered into with the thought of renunciation. Third, it arises from the peak of existence, because the four aggregates of that mature ground are accomplished. Fourth, it is the virtue that is aroused by that intention. Fifth, a non-returner arises again, if they have not declined, then in the next life they will be born in the peak of existence and experience maturity; if they have declined, then they will be born in a lower realm, obtain the mind of the peak of existence, and experience two other births there. Some non-returners and all arhats do not necessarily experience it. Sixth, it is the noble person, the non-returner and arhat who have obtained the mind of the peak of existence, who enter, ordinary people do not enter, because this is the attachment to self and is aroused by the power of the noble path. Seventh, it is obtained through effort in practice, not just through being free from desire, so like before, the first moment obtains the present time, and from the second moment onwards, it is also associated with the past time, the future time cannot be obtained. Is the special case all cases like this? Answer: The Buddha's cessation is not obtained through practice, but is obtained through enlightenment simultaneously with the attainment of the knowledge of exhaustion and non-arising. This is merely obtaining mastery, not following, so there is no obtaining of birth. The Buddha is the word of the teaching of the abiding Nigupta. The Tathagata is the one who, having aroused cessation attainment, attains the knowledge of exhaustion.

When learning by taking "arising" as the standard, subdue the demons in the evening. At midnight, observe the birth and death of sentient beings with the divine eye. In the early morning, generate sixteen moments and, rising from entering cessation, generate the antidote to the peak of existence, which is called Buddha. The Kashmiris do not generate that when they first learn, because Bodhisattvas directly realize the sixteen truths and the antidote to the peak of existence, the nine uninterrupted paths, and the nine liberation paths, generating a total of thirty-four moments without interruption, thereby attaining Bodhi. Because the objects to be abandoned by meditation below the realm of nothingness have already been abandoned during the practice of long-distance flight and remaining actions. The Ekavyavaharavadins establish that if that samadhi is manifested in the interim, it becomes deliberative. Even the objects to be abandoned by seeing in the desire realm, even if generating Dharma-kshanti and Dharma-jnana, although there is nothing to be abandoned, it is because there is no way to know that there is no such thing. The Sunyavadins say that it is not the meaning of being deliberative, without changing the lotus posture, one should attain Bodhi on one seat, and that the practice of such a vow is not unpleasant. Secondly, both of those samadhis are dependent on the desire and form realms, not the formless realm, because the first is the place of the fourth dhyana, and the second is dependent on the scriptures, or, if it is the formless realm, when the formless realm and the corresponding cease, the single non-corresponding formation cannot abide, so it will become untimely and without remainder entering extinction, or, that realm is corresponding and peaceful and will not be weary. However, the first new arising of cessation needs to be generated by the intelligent among the people of the three continents, because it is difficult to generate when unfamiliar. Later, it is also generated in the form realm, and earlier, because it is easy to generate when familiar, so the first is also dependent on both. If it becomes that there is no cessation samadhi dependent on the form realm, then that first needs to be generated on the basis of humans, and it is impossible to be born in the form realm when cessation samadhi is attained on the basis of humans, because one is separated from attachment to form, if you say so, one who possesses the characteristics of contaminated peace, grossness, and subtlety has separated from attachment to form and attained the mind of the peak of existence, so it is impossible for one who has already entered cessation to later degenerate from the detachment from desire in the formless realm.
