. The calmness of bodily sensation is the root of pleasure. In the third dhyana, the calmness of mental sensation is the root of pleasure. Because there is no mental pleasure and no bodily sensation. Other than the third dhyana, in the first three dhyanas and desire, the calmness of mental sensation is the root of mental pleasure. Because mental sensation is not stable. The experience of suffering when mental sensation is not calm is the root of mental unhappiness. The root of equanimity is the middle of those two, which is the experience other than calm and uncalm. Which middle of body and mind is it? It is the middle of both. So, what is the reason why pleasure and pain are different in body and mind, while equanimity is considered as one? There are two reasons: the causes are different, and the benefits and harms of the actions are not obvious. First, mental pleasure and pain, born from dhyana and vipaka, do not arise from slight thought, but mostly arise from the good and bad of discrimination. And the bodily pleasure and pain, even without discrimination, arise even for arhats due to the power of the object being lovely and unlovely, so the causes are different. And equanimity, both do not discriminate, but arise spontaneously, so it is considered as one. Second, those two of body and mind, the benefits and harms are obvious to the stability and instability of each body and mind. And equanimity, there is no distinction between the benefits and harms to body and mind, so it is summed up as one, therefore some say there is no equanimity. Second, the nature of the uncontaminated is: the basis is any one of the five of faith, etc., mind and pleasure, mental pleasure, and equanimity, although there is only one, but it can exist alternately, so according to the type, those nine, at the time of the path of seeing, because they can know the truth that was not known before, so they are omniscient; at the time of the path of cultivation, because they can make the things that have already been seen become familiar, so they are omniscient; on the path of no more learning, because they know all the truths, or know the cessation of non-arising, so they know suffering, and there is no need to know again, so they have knowledge, therefore they are the three roots of having omniscience. In the Abhidharmasamuccaya, because the former two also have unhappiness, so it is said to be ten roots. In terms of boundaries, the Abhidharmasamuccaya says that it exists from the path of accumulation. The Abhidharmasamuccaya and the Prajnaparamita say that it exists from the path of application. Second, the classification of aspects has six types: contaminated and uncontaminated,

Mature or immature? With or without Vipaka. The difference between the three, virtue, etc. The difference between the three realms. The distinction of whether to abandon or not. First: Then, among the twenty-two faculties, which are with outflows and which are without outflows? The three just mentioned are completely without defilements, because they are only placed on the three paths. The seven form aggregates and the suffering of life, body, and mind, etc., are only with outflows, because they are not the truth of the path and the unconditioned. The other nine, those that have become the basis for the imputation of the three without outflows are without outflows, and those that have not become the basis for the imputation are with outflows, so there are both aspects. "The truth of the path without outflows," and "These three are with outflows and without outflows," are not repeated because the necessities are different. Some people are confused about the meaning of the sutras and think that the five, such as faith, are only without outflows. Second: Life, in the higher realms and lower realms, is only the Vipaka of the fruits of virtue and non-virtue. Then, it is said that Arhats can give up or retain their lives, but Vipaka is the fruit of the past, so it is contradictory that it arises as desired. Here, there are three cases: only considered as Vipaka, mostly considered as Vipaka, and incidentally talking about giving up or retaining life. The first case: Some say that the scriptures say that Arhats enter the ultimate Samadhi, and after rising from Samadhi, offer the necessities of life to the Sangha or individuals, and pray, "May the Vipaka of my enjoyment be transformed into the Vipaka of life," and also say it in words, so enjoyment will be transformed into life. It is said that this is both the projection and completion of the karma experienced in this life, or if it is considered that there is no projection in seeing the truth, then it must be admitted that the Vipaka of completion is the real Vipaka of the fruit experienced in this life. Some think that not all Arhats have the ability to extend their lives, but some who were previously projected to live a hundred years die prematurely due to accidents, leaving some life, and they see these lives and think that they are brought here by previous habits. Here, the cause of the Vipaka of the fruit experienced in this life is like producing a fruit, so it is only nominally admitted as Vipaka. The second case: The venerable Yangdro says that extending life is on that body, through the power of the ultimate Samadhi, purely generating the elements of the fourth Dhyana that are in harmony with life.
