The certainty of those is because they apprehend by encountering objects, because there is no direct cognition that takes distant objects as its object. All of the bases, faculties, objects, and consciousnesses are their own places. In the Sutra on Mindfulness, it is said that if the nose transforms, it can perceive the smell of five hundred yojanas. Is everything like that? Generally speaking, the exception is that when tangible objects born in the three realms, such as the second dhyana, are touched, the body's consciousness is the guide of the lower ground and the first ground; when tangible objects of the desire realm and the first ground are touched, it is the consciousness of one's own place. Fourth, the mind and the other three are present in all grounds, and if the basis is the body, it is the fifth ground, and if the continuum is the ninth ground. This is uncertain as to whether it is above or below, like the eye and so on. If a desire realm being generates a mind consciousness by focusing on its dharma with its mind, it is one ground; if it generates a mind consciousness between the peak of existence, it is not one ground, because the basis of the fourth dhyana has the mind and mind consciousness of the lower ground, which are emanated minds and behavioral agents, and the contaminated peak of existence, except for the time of rebirth, the first three formless realms do not generate the mind consciousness of the lower ground, and the formless realm does not focus on the dharmas of the desire realm, and so on. Fifth, which of the six consciousnesses knows the eighteen realms? "Two consciousnesses know the outer five," after this correction, the five outer objects such as form are known by two consciousnesses, that is, the eye and mind consciousness know form and so on. The inner twelve and dharma are known only by mind consciousness. Sixth, among the eighteen realms, there is nothing that is entirely permanent. Half of the dharma realm, that is, the three unconditioned dharmas, are permanent, and the remaining half and eighteen are impermanent. Does this contradict the substantialist school? Here, it is shown that the permanence of the cessation-only arising and ceasing, which is in accordance with the Sutra school. The former shows the permanent substance according to the view of the Vaibhashika school. Seventh, among the eighteen realms, how many are faculties and how many are not faculties? Half of the dharma realm, the five sensations, the life force, and the five such as faith, and the parts of the last three faculties, that is, half and fourteen, and which realms are called internal realms? Twelve, that is, the eye and so on are named by their own names.
