If asked, "Does the form realm have an object?" The essence, together with the latter three proximate causes, is said to destroy the concept or object of form, because it has no form in itself. The essence is only the lower part, and for the second proximate cause in the lower part, there is no object. Moreover, it is free from the concept of obstructive touch. It is not the object of cognition of the six grounds of subsequent consciousness. The first proximate cause has objects such as the form of the four aggregates. The third has two aspects, and the general meaning of the words has two aspects. First, in the formless realm, there is no form, which is the word as stated in the scriptures. The Crimson Robe sect says that there is a ninth heart center there. Some Tibetans say that the Sthavira school believes in the vessel formed by common karma, the Mahasamghika school believes in the form of sentient beings, and the Mahayana school believes that both exist, but they are considered non-existent because they are extremely subtle, like a goddess without a waist. As stated in the Great Belly Sutra, "Life and warmth are mixed together." Also, as Shariputra said, "Name and form depend on each other like two leaves of a reed." It is also said, "Due to consciousness, there are name and form, and the four aggregates prevent consciousness from going elsewhere." These statements have no basis for establishment and have reasons for refutation, so they are unreasonable. First, those sutras generally say that external warmth is also mixed with life, depends on its name, and is produced by consciousness, and that the complete five aggregates prevent consciousness from going elsewhere, which is not established. If it is directed towards the upper realms, then it is uncertain. Second, what kind of form is there? Is it merely the discipline of body and speech? If there is no body and speech, how can there be its discipline? Without earth, there can be no earth-produced. If there is no form because it is subtle, then the subtle forms of aquatic beings will not appear like form, and the subtle nature of the intermediate state and the behavior in the form realm will also become like that. If it is extremely clear, then like meditative absorption, there will also be differences in birth, so only the peak of existence will become like that. The scriptures also say, "Those in the formless realm necessarily arise from the form realm." It also says, "Those peaceful formless liberations are beyond form." It also says, "There are non-form beings." It also says, "In all aspects, having transcended the concept of form."
